EsperanzaEsperanza Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program Review

Plaza Community Services is a nonprofit agency located in East Los Angeles, California. Since 1916, Plaza Community Services has offered a diverse array of low cost services including behavioral healthcare, medical services and child welfare programs. Their Esperanza Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program offers outpatient substance abuse treatment to adults that includes group and individual therapy. Since a majority of their clients are from the surrounding Latino community, they offer services in Spanish, as well.

Treatment and Staff

Esperanza Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program offers individualized treatment plans, with the duration of treatment depending on the length and severity of the person’s addiction. Each potential client receives a comprehensive evaluation prior to beginning treatment. Those requiring detox, inpatient care or medication-assisted treatment are provided with referrals to other local facilities that work in conjunction with Plaza Community Services to provide low-cost care. Plaza Community Services mental health program provides dual diagnosis support for clients who suffer from depression and other co-occurring disorders.

The Esperanza Drug and Alcohol Treatment program utilizes an evidence-based practice, as well as a psycho-educational approach. On a weekly basis, the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) has a nine-hour schedule and the Outpatient Program meets for six hours. Treatment includes case management, three group sessions and individual therapy (per client’s needs), as well as mandatory attendance at three 12-step meetings off the premises. Group topics include anger management, domestic violence, parenting, substance abuse education, life skills, HIV/AIDS, and relapse prevention. A gender-specific self-esteem group is offered for women whose lives have been affected by substance abuse and violence. Groups average about ten clients per session.

The staff includes four LADCs and two LCSWs.

Extras

Transportation, childcare and free meals are provided to eligible low-income clients. Those who are court-ordered to treatment are subject to weekly drug and alcohol screenings.

In Summary

At Plaza Community Services Esperanza Drug and Alcohol Program, their mission is to appreciate cultural diversity and to provide services regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. For financially challenged clients seeking an outpatient protocol along with a 12-step curriculum, this rehab is a great choice.
