Enterhealth Life Recovery CenterEnterhealth Ranch

Opened in late 2008, Enterhealth Ranch provides myriad services for addiction and co-occurring disorders. Residential treatment takes place on its 43-acre campus, located in Van Alstyne, Texas—about an hour’s drive from Dallas. It’s surrounded by bucolic ranch land, so clients can swim, enjoy a putting green and find serenity walking on the spacious grounds. Outpatient treatment at the Enterhealth Outpatient Center of Excellence is also available.

Accommodations and Food

Enterhealth is an upscale rehab on a ranch, with 38 private rooms and a homey setting designed to give clients a feeling of being taken care of so they can focus on treatment. Each room is equipped with a queen-size bed, armchair, night table, closet and flat-screen TV, in addition to its own private attached bathroom.

Each client is assessed individually, and therefore cell phone and personal computer use may be limited depending on their treatment plan.  This is solely for the care of the client—if they need to continue running a business while in treatment, it can be accommodated. Restrictions are only for the prevention of outside sources interfering with recovery. There are cell phones clients may borrow for family phone calls. There’s also a media and business center.

All meals are prepared by an on-site chef who uses healthy ingredients. A typical meal at Enterhealth includes a meat or fish entree, vegetables, salad, fruit and dessert. Sugar and caffeine in moderation are permitted. If dietary restrictions are discussed during intake, the kitchen staff will do its best to accommodate them.

Treatment and Staff

A medically supervised detox can be administered on site; a doctor, clinician and a nurse are available to residents 24/7.  Each resident’s stay is determined by their diagnosis and needs, but inpatient treatment typically lasts for 30 days. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, each client is given an individualized treatment plan. Therapists use a variety of techniques including CBT, DBT and EMDR for clients who have experienced trauma. Each client has individual therapy at least twice a week for 45 minutes to an hour, though the clinician may go longer if necessary, in addition to weekly group sessions. Although 12 steps aren’t part of the recovery model, AA is offered on site, along with SMART Recovery meetings seven days a week

The typical day at Enterhealth begins with a 6:30 am wake-up, followed by medication, if necessary, administered by a nurse  (a psychiatrist is also on hand if a client has questions or issues). There is a didactic group at 9 am. After lunch, clients can expect individual therapy with therapist or consultation with psychiatrist, smaller group sessions led by therapists focused on individualized care such as anxiety, trauma, meditation or relapse prevention, as well as men’s/women’s groups along with neurocognitive and medical education led by the physicians. There are scheduled breaks throughout the day to allow time for patients to process information. After dinner hours also include AA and SMART Recovery meetings. Lights out is at 10:30 pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends.

The clinical staff includes physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, neuropsychologists and PhD- and Master’s-level therapists. Credentials include LPC, LMFT, LMSW, LCDC and LCSW, and dual diagnosis support is available. The staff-to-client ratio is one-to-three.

Extras

Clients can expect yoga, fitness and nutrition groups. On the fitness end, clients can exercise in the outdoor pool or at the gym. Each resident has a customized plan for exercise, which is regarded as an important support for recovery. Personal trainers are available for an extra charge. Equine therapy, individual yoga sessions, massage, acupuncture and salon services are available for purchase. Patients do not tip for these services. Group yoga and rotating extracurricular activities are included with the price of treatment. Enterhealth also implements acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine therapy.

The family program takes place in the weekends. Clients and their loved ones learn about addiction, its effects on the family and its triggers and how to best support someone in recovery.

Aftercare is regarded as necessary for ongoing recovery and includes relapse prevention meetings to help alumni maintain sobriety. Dallas-Fort Worth area clients are encouraged to continue treatment at the aforementioned Outpatient Center of Excellence; clients from other cities and states can be assisted with finding the appropriate outpatient care. Outpatient programming offers weekly family group sessions to complement the Ranch family program. The outpatient also now offers teletherapy and telemedicine.

In Summary

Enterhealth Ranch provides evidence-based treatment in an upscale setting. Private rooms, on-site amenities and a low client-to-staff ratio make this a viable resource for those seeking recovery in Texas. Another bonus is the option of extending treatment for an additional 15 days, beyond the prescribed 30. Potential clients are encouraged to call for cost estimates because individualized treatment plans can include or exclude different services.
