Encompass Recovery Review
For the last five years, Encompass Recovery has been offering Christian-based substance abuse treatment services to men in and around San Juan Capistrano, California. Encompass’s services run the gamut from airport pickup for clients, detox, residential and day treatment, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), life planning and aftercare. As part of its programs, Encompass provides individualized studies, workshops and classes on substance abuse. It also offers daily AA/NA and OA meetings. The Christian aspect of treatment is available but not obligatory for all clients. Based on the philosophy that recovery is different for each individual, there is no specified minimum of maximum length of stay at Encompass.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Encompass Recovery facilities can be found in three locations near the beaches of San Clemente, Dana Point and Laguna, California. San Clemente and Dana Point offer two six-bed luxury homes—the latter houses residential clients—while IOP clients stay in a large 12-bedroom sober living-style home in Laguna as well as the other six-bed house in San Clemente. Encompass rooms vary; most have two beds and are shared between two clients. However, each house also has one three-bed master bedroom.
All houses have their own full kitchen, while the Laguna home also boasts one of the largest pools in Orange County. Each one of the houses has its own chef who plans and prepares all meals for the clients. Houses are supervised around the clock with live-in staff.
Rules and Regulations
Detox at Encompass is offered in both the inpatient and ambulatory varieties and may last up to 10 days. Both come with two follow up visits with a licensed psychiatrist who prescribes any needed medication. While in residential treatment at Dana Point clients may benefit from dual-diagnosis support and group therapy at a frequency and duration as their individualized treatment plan dictates. After detox or residential treatment, clients may choose between 30 hours a week of day treatment or nine to 15 weekly hours of IOP to meet their specific needs and budget.
As part of both these programs clients are transferred by van daily to the San Juan Capistrano campus for treatment. Treatment in IOP, day and residential treatment all run Mondays through Fridays, between the hours of 10 am to 4 pm, utilizing a combination of different modalities including CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Options for a Christian or secular 12-step focus are both offered. The Christian track is affiliated with a local faith-based recovery community called the effect.
Clients also attend three individual sessions weekly with a Masters’-level social worker, one hour with their case manager and one meeting with Encompass’s spiritual director. Classes on different topics, such as triggers, coping skills and understanding long-term recovery run throughout the week. Every night, after dinner, clients are transported to an off-site AA/NA meeting before being returned to their lodging. Encompass also often plans weekend outings for clients and makes sure they are kept busy during the week to focus on recovery.
Encompass staff consists of a medical doctor, a nurse, a nurse’s assistant, two spiritual directors/counselors, two Masters’-level therapists and one case manager as well as a number of LCDCs.
Extras
At Encompass Recovery, those who wish to, may partake in a formal prayer or meditation session daily. Clients at Encompass Recovery also have access to pastoral counseling, marriage counseling, family therapy, relapse prevention planning and employment assistance

Encompass Recovery is a fairly young organization, but offers an impressive continuum of care. The services offered are varied and offered at an economical rate that makes it a competitive option against other substance abuse treatment facilities in the area. For men seeking a flexible, comprehensive faith-based or 12 step-oriented rehab in Orange County, this is a great choice.
