Located in the San Fernando Valley community of Encino, California, Encino Eating Disorders provides outpatient-based counseling for eating disorders and related behavioral health issues. The organization began in 1991 as the private practice of Christine Loeb, an LMFT and registered dietitian with over 25 years experience in her field, though it has since expanded to include other practitioners.
Treatment and Staff
Before therapy begins, all clients go through an intake and assessment process to help the clinicians develop their care plans. Detox services are not available as the facility is a non-medical one, though referrals can be made whenever necessary. Once stabilized, participants can attend outpatient care in both standard and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) intensities.
In either case, programs include both individual and group therapy with evidence-based practices including mindfulness-based CBT. All treatment plans are individualized and as such there is no “typical” program. Still, topics often covered may include emotional processing, healthy body image, nutritional counseling, trauma processing, stress management and life skills. Though 12-step participation is not a required part of the program, those interested can get help finding nearby meetings as necessary.
The staff at Encino Eating Disorders consists of dietitians and LMFTs.
Those who complete the above in a primary care intensity can work with the staff to develop stepped down aftercare plans as well. Other services include additional individual and family counseling sessions, grief counseling and standalone nutritional counseling. Specific treatment approaches are available for men, women and adolescents as well.
In all, Encino Eating Disorders is a small but well-rounded outpatient program for clients of all ages and genders who are struggling with eating disorders. Treatment includes evidence-based psychotherapy, nutritional counseling and educational groups to help participants get the help they need. While the cost of treatment may vary somewhat by insurance, Encino Eating Disorders remains worth considering for those in the area.
