EmergenceEmergence Review

Founded in Eugene, Oregon, in 1981, Emergence is a network of outpatient therapeutic programs focused on the treatment of mental health issues, substance abuse and gambling problems. The Emergence programs take place in various southern Oregon locales and most are exclusively available to individuals who are court-mandated to attend. Only two of the programs are open to both justice system clients and the general public and both center on substance abuse. The Threshold Drug and Alcohol Intervention Program is offered in Eugene, Florence and Albany; the Medication Assisted Opiate Recovery Program takes place in Corvallis.

Treatment and Staff

The Threshold Drug and Alcohol Intervention Program is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) program consisting of two-hour group sessions, three times per week for a minimum of 12 weeks. Counselors provide additional individual sessions on a bi-weekly basis as well as family therapy sessions, as needed. Threshold uses Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBT modalities. They accept all major insurance coverage as well as the Oregon Health Plan and, once the 12-week program is completed, they offer 12 months of continuing care that includes a weekly hour-long aftercare group.

In the Medication Assisted Opiate Recovery Program, Emergence works with local doctors who prescribe Suboxone to create a framework for recovery from opiate abuse. Clients take part in group, individual and family therapy and are provided with medication management by their prescribing physician.

The Emergence network includes more than 40 certified addiction counselors as well as medical care coordinators and case managers.

Extras

The Discovery treatment program at Emergence’s Cottage Grove, Oregon, location is designed for those facing charges such as DUI or public intoxication. Clients attend group sessions weekly and also receive twice-monthly individual counseling, as well as regular urinalysis tests to verify abstinence from substances. This program typically lasts no less than 90 days and meets all the state requirements for a deferred prosecution.

The Cottage Grove clinic also offers the Endeavor program, designed specifically for individuals referred by the Lane County Department of Corrections. Group sessions are mandatory three times a week. There is additional individual counseling offered, as well as the same urinalysis tests as in the Discovery program and case management services. Endeavor clients also work on their issues through Moral Reconation Therapy.

Emergence also offers a tobacco and nicotine treatment program. Those who enroll undergo carbon monoxide monitoring in conjunction with individual or group therapy sessions or a combination of the two.

Emergence’s Juntos program provides services to Spanish-speaking individuals. Also, Emergence offers free gym membership to all its clients.

In Summary

The Emergence network offers an array of affordable outpatient services in central Oregon. They focus on offering substance abuse treatment for criminal justice clients, but the Threshold IOP program and the medication-assisted recovery program are open to anyone. For those seeking recovery, Emergence can be of great help at reasonable prices.
