Eliada Day Treatment Review
Eliada of Asheville, North Carolina offers a day treatment program for youth struggling with mental health issues. It also offers a residential care. Treatment utilizes evidence-based protocols and holistic approaches that build on the client’s strengths. In addition to the therapeutic element to treatment, there is also an accredited private school on the campus.
The day treatment offers care for high risk kids struggling with behavioral problems or co-occurring disorders. It’s worth noting, day program clients receive full time care year round, which includes attending school, medication management, and group and individual therapy.
Treatment and Staff
The day program is available to clients between the ages of six and 17. This track runs five days per week from morning to late afternoon. During the day clients participate in educational classes that are age appropriate, attend group therapy and enjoy recreational activities. The emphasis of the day program is helping the children learn appropriate behaviors, manage emotions, and accept responsibility for actions and choices.
Part of the day program is working with the campus animals. Eliada’s sprawling campus is a former dairy farm. As a result, the grounds house several animals including nine horses, pigs, goats, mini-horses, goats and cats. Through the Therapeutic Animal Service Cooperative, there are weekly groups where the clients work with these animals. These group sessions focus on honing their ability to focus, managing anger and developing empathy. In addition to the animal therapy there is also weekly equine therapy on campus. A specialist leads equine therapy and offers individual, group and family sessions.
Common approaches during the day program include CBT, DBT, Solutions Focused Therapy, art therapy, music therapy, expressive arts therapy and creative writing. In addition to daily therapy sessions and activities, the clients work on life skills, and receive aftercare planning and support. Case managers are always in contact with family members and the clients have other care providers to offer wraparound treatment.
There is a small staff-to-client ratio of one-to-four. Consequently, there is plenty of personalized attention and instruction. Clinical staff includes LPCs, LCSWs, case managers, psychiatrists and nurses.
Extras
Recreational therapy includes volleyball, softball, football, basketball, and tennis. Outdoor activities can consist of kayaking, ropes course, hiking and rafting.
In Summary
The day program is ideal for young clients who have a primary diagnosis of a mental health disorder but can still remain at home during their treatment. The treatment is similar to the residential track with a slightly less intrusive vibe. Above all, no matter where the clients are when they come to the program at Eliada, the staff works to provide the best care that truly takes their needs into account.
