Elevation Behavioral Health Review
Elevation Behavioral Health is a fully licensed residential treatment facility located in the affluent community of Agoura Hills, California. Located in Canyon Country near the beaches of Malibu, Elevation is licensed with the Department of Health Care Services and the Department of Social Services.
The facility is co-owned and operated by Dr. Priya Chaudhri and Steven Booth, both individuals with extensive experience running high-end rehabs for over a decade. Clients at Elevation Behavioral Health live in luxurious accommodations and receive individualized treatment that is designed to help them develop a solid foundation of recovery using evidence-based methods of treatment. Clients with primary mental health diagnosis are treated as are those with co-occurring substance abuse issues.
Accommodations and Food
Elevation Behavioral Health accommodates clients in an expansive 10,000 square-foot home with a private, gated drive. The home is perched on top of a mountain with views of Conejo Valley and the Simi Hills. The property also has three acres of private land with hiking trails, ponds and mountain vistas.
The two-story Spanish-style home with red tiled roof accommodates a total of six clients with two private suites and two semi-private suites. Décor is contemporary-classic, with tile and hardwood floors, tall windows and sun filled rooms. An open foyer leads to communal areas including a state-of-the-art kitchen, formal dining room, a recreation room with pool table, ping-pong, comfortable seating, a fireplace and flat screen TV. The kitchen is staffed with a private chef who prepares nutritious and healthy meals, but clients have full access to the kitchen for coffee, tea and snacks.
A dramatic stairway leads upstairs to a grand piano, bedroom suites and covered balconies. Each suite has hardwood floors and ample personal space. Bedrooms are furnished with king- and California king-sized canopy beds as well as dressers, bedside tables and closets. Each room boasts views of the property and access to private and shared balconies and has its own en-suite bathroom with walk-in showers and Jacuzzi tubs with towels and linens provided.
Outside, the grounds have patios with both covered and open seating areas, an infinity pool, Jacuzzi, a tennis court and lily pond where clients can socialize and enjoy down time.
Treatment and Staff
Clients are treated as unique individuals with their own recovery needs and goals. The low staff-to-client ratio ensures that each resident receives focused and caring attention. Initially, each client is seen for a bio-psycho-social assessment to determine the level of care needed. Next, residents meet with their primary therapist and case manager to develop an individualized treatment plan. Clients requiring detox prior to beginning primary treatment are enrolled in the on-site supervised detox under the care of doctors and mental health professionals.
The approach to treatment at Elevation is comprehensive and delves into the mind, body and spirit of the individual. The process includes daily group therapy with other clients that ranges from therapeutic to psycho-educational. Additionally, clients frequently attend individual therapy with their primary therapist—frequency is determined by the resident and their treatment plan. Therapists utilize evidence-based practices that include CBT and DBT techniques. Groups focus on relapse prevention, dual diagnosis, Brain Wellness, Neurofeedback, breaking the cycle of defective and self-limited thinking and addressing behavioral issues. In addition, clients frequently attend 12-step meetings to support their recovery.
Clients also participate in holistic treatment methods to align their mind-body connection. Yoga, meditation classes and use of the on-site gym help residents to work on their physical recovery as well as the mental aspects of health and wellness. Clients are encouraged to take walks on the beach, swim in the pool and play tennis with other residents. A staff nutritionist is available to teach healthy eating and grocery shopping habits. Journaling is also encouraged so residents can document and witness their individual progress.
A team of experienced mental health professionals guides clients along their recovery path. Dual diagnosis support and medication management are available as is Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Suboxone or other addiction medications—all closely monitored by the medical staff. Staff credentials include independent physicians, MFTs, CADCs and Recovery Coaches. The facility also has residential technicians on staff and other qualified individuals present day and night to help with all client needs.
Extras
Residents are given access to a wide range of services including yoga classes and mindfulness groups to work on their meditation practice. Families are also invited to participate in the therapeutic process allowing them understand their role in recovery and to develop a network of support with other families.
Outside of the house, clients participate in organized activities including trips to the movies, the beach, bowling, shopping and socializing with other clients.
