The Basics
Elevate Addiction Services is an accredited, residential treatment center for substance abuse located on a 34-acre ranch in Santa Cruz, California. Elevate provides holistic, evidence-based care utilizing SMART Recovery. Long-term programs are available for both men and women. Clients enjoy ocean views and glimpses of Big Sur, approximately 90 miles south of San Francisco. Flights from any city and pick-ups from numerous airports can be arranged.
Accommodations and Food
The sprawling facility accommodates 55 clients in gender-separated rooms of two to five. Each room has an adjoining, private bathroom and all linens are provided. Chefs prepare gourmet meals in the industrial kitchen and serve clients communally in the dining room. Food is delicious and specifically tailored to meet individual client’s nutritional needs. Salad bars and healthy snacks are available between meals.
Treatment and Staff
Elevate believes that the body naturally begins to produce what it lacks, given the right holistic treatments, meaning anti-depressant, psychiatric and anti-anxiety medications aren’t allowed. Only holistic modalities are used for dual diagnosis support, which include amino-acid packets that stimulate dopamine and serotonin. Staff helps clients detox from alcohol, drugs and medications using massage and acupressure. Doctors evaluate clients upon admission ensuring physical stability, and clients can seek medical care off-site if something comes up.
The four-phase program is typically completed over 90 days, though clients move through it at their own pace and only graduate when they’re ready. The first phase establishes physical stability through a combination of nutritional therapy, a gradual increase in exercise, breathing and mindfulness techniques. Daily educational sessions and SMART Recovery meetings teach clients about substance abuse, abstinence and related issues. Weekly individual and addiction counseling with a LADC guides the process to self-realization.
The second phase continues these modalities, increasing the intensity of physical exercise and lowering stress through additional mindfulness exercises. This phase focuses on interpersonal skills, helping clients relate to each other without resentment. They also learn how to identify and resolve unhealthy and codependent relationships; family counseling can also be introduced at this stage. Implementing principles of accountability and service, clients are encouraged to help newer clients with assignments.
The third phase refines the nutritional and fitness components, allowing for a more self-motivated approach that implements goals chosen by clients. Continuing the schedule of preceding phases, clients begin to make amends for past behavior and prepare for life after treatment. Supervised nature-oriented trips are offered at this stage. The fourth and final phase includes discharge planning with family involvement, where appropriate and a relapse prevention plan. Clients also receive referrals to sober support groups and possible internships and training to work at Elevate. In addition to LADCs and specialized therapists, sober peers supervise clients and provide support, with an almost one to one staff to client ratio.
Extras
Outdoors, clients enjoy volleyball, hiking trails and stunning views.
Other optional therapies incorporated into individual plans include essential oils for pain management, art and experiential therapy. A six-month aftercare plan includes weekly phone calls with staff to check in on progress after treatment. If clients complete the program but relapse within six months, they are welcomed back for another try at no cost.
