Located an hour south of Denver, Colorado in the city of Colorado Springs, EDCare is a Joint Commission-accredited treatment facility that provides an evening Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient services. It primarily treats adult men and women struggling with an array of eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia and binge eating. EDCare’s IOP and outpatient programming allow clients to participate in comprehensive, structured treatment without disrupting work, school or home life. Opened in 2013, the organization utilizes a client-centered philosophy that integrates a host of therapies including evidence-based individual and group therapy, experiential therapy and nutrition counseling. The 12-step recovery model is not a component of EDCare’s programming.
Treatment and Staff
EDCare’s Colorado Springs location treats a range of complex eating disorders including compulsive eating, binge eating and orthorexia as well as diabulimia in diabetic clients. To this end, EDCare offers the “CAMSA” approach, which incorporates concepts of connection, acceptance, mindfulness, sense of self and action into each client’s treatment program. Individuals entering the program first meet with an intake therapist for a comprehensive assessment that includes a medical, psychological and nutritional evaluation. The exam guides the EDCare team in determining the most effective individualized treatment program customized to the specific needs and goals of the client.
The facility provides an extensive evening IOP as well as outpatient therapy services. The evening IOP is ideal for clients that require more therapy than weekly outpatient programming can provide, but want to continue working or attending school. While the duration may vary depending on the needs of the individual, most clients attend for 10 weeks. Participants can expect individual, group and family therapy. With an individualized program, clients engage in a host of therapeutic methods. Four hours a night for four nights a week, EDCare facilitates DBT, ACT, psychodrama, art therapy and skills groups that focus on body image, grocery shopping and meal preparation. Each night clients and therapists eat together and participate in a post-meal discussion.
The EDCare team is comprised of MFTs, clinical counselors and a registered dietitian. Without a physician, medication management is not available at the Colorado Springs location.
