Eating Recovery Center Dallas Review
Eating Recovery Center Dallas is one of four Texas branches of the Denver-based nationwide Eating Recovery Center organization. The facilities provide treatment for eating disorders as well as co-occurring mental health disorders. In addition to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), the Dallas location also provides an inpatient hospitalization track for men and women that is the most intensive of all its Texas programs.
Accommodations and Food
Dallas inpatient clients stay in apartment-style accommodations with a total of 24 beds available for men and women. Residents share apartments with their own private bedrooms, which include twin beds, dressers, modern decor and closet space. Other amenities include on-site laundry services, shared living areas with cable TV and shared bathrooms.
Treatment takes place in the clinical wing, which is equipped with therapy rooms and an industrial kitchen where all residents are served three meals a day plus snacks. While on-site chefs and dietitians prepare meals, clients gradually take more responsibility for their own food preparation as the program progresses. Support for vegetarianism is available though not for veganism.
Treatment and Staff
Upon intake, clients go through an initial assessment to help staff members develop their individualized treatment plans. Inpatient care generally lasts for four to six weeks. In general, treatment runs from 7:45 am to 8:30 pm with breaks throughout the day. It includes individual therapy three times a week and group therapy daily, both using evidence-based practices such as CBT and DBT. As eating disorders are often falsely represented as a “women’s disease,” there is a special effort to provide gender-specific care for men too. Groups cover a range of topics including psychoeducation, spirituality, social and communication skills, nutrition, relapse prevention and dual diagnosis issues as necessary. All programs include a trauma-informed care approach as well.
The staff at Eating Recovery Center Dallas consists of MDs, LMFTs, RDs, RNs, psychiatrists, psychologists and additional Master’s and PhD-level counselors.
Extras
Residents also have the opportunity to participate in practice meals out in restaurants and other group settings. Additionally, they can participate in a range of holistic therapies like yoga, dance, somatic experiencing, creative writing, voice and acting lessons and art therapy.
Those who complete a primary care program may also step down to outpatient treatment at one of the other Eating Recovery Center locations for further support.
