Muskegon MichiganEastside Outpatient Services Review

Eastside Outpatient Services is an outpatient substance abuse and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) facility in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. Located close to Lake Michigan, EOS provides treatment that is flexible towards the client’s needs and tailored to the results of their assessment. In addition to outpatient treatment and detox services, EOS offers DUI classes, MIP classes and programming geared towards individuals with court-ordered requirements.

Originally opened as an opiate addiction treatment facility, EOS has since expanded their offerings to treat many aspects of chemical dependency. Eastside Outpatient Services was opened by Dr. Leon Smith in 1988 and has assisted clients in Muskegon County since.

Treatment and Staff

Following a complete bio-psycho-socially assessed by an intake counselor, clients are enrolled in the appropriate track. EOS uses the Multi-Dimensional Addiction and Personality Profile (MAPP) in order to gather an accurate acuity level of each client’s usage and mental health status. Once assessed, a client will begin working with their primary therapist to generate an individualized treatment plan. A majority of clients attending treatment at EOS are enrolled in the MAT program and are treated with Suboxone. However, EOS also provides therapeutic services in addition to medication in order to holistically treat the individual and clients attend weekly group therapy as frequently as agreed upon in their treatment plan, sometimes as often as three times per week. Many clients reduce the frequency of their attendance as they progress in treatment and approach their discharge date.

Group therapy sessions focus primarily on psychoeducation, relapse prevention skills and management of co-occurring disorders. Therapists work with clients to identify triggers and identify behaviors that contribute to an unhealthy lifestyle. EOS utilizes evidence-based practices which include CBT and DBT techniques. All groups are facilitated by clinical staff members who are LCSWs, CADCs, LPCs and Behavioral Health Specialists (BHS). Each counselor and therapist has their own unique backgrounds and specialties to enrich the group experience. In addition to group therapy, clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings to seek additional support.

Clients also attend individual therapy with their primary therapist and the medical staff to ensure their medication is managed correctly. Individual sessions may be as often as once per week or once per month depending on the client’s progress and treatment plan.

Extras

Clients enrolled at EOS may request family therapy sessions if they believe they will benefit from it. Clients and their therapists may organize sessions with the family or spouse to substitute an individual session.

EOS works closely with the court systems, CPS, DHS, foster homes and employee assistance programs to provide the correct reporting and services needed. All clients are regularly drug tested to ensure sobriety and clean time during their program. Clients may also be accepted for singular services that include drug testing, driver’s license evaluations, Minor in Possession classes and assessments.

In Summary

Eastside Outpatient Services provides MAT and therapy on an outpatient level. A credentialed medical staff and mental health staff work together to bring the client toward a stable body and healthy mind. In addition, EOS offers services for individuals who have court obligations that include DUI, MIP and dealings with CPS. Drug testing, assessments and driver’s license evaluations are available as singular services if needed. If at any time a client or staff member believes they require more intensive treatment, EOS offers a range of referral options to ensure each client is getting their needs met.
