Salisbury MarylandEastern Shore Psychological Services Review

Founded in 1999, Eastern Shore Psychological Services began with just one office and five staff members. Today, ESPS offers outpatient mental health services with 85 clinical staff members and four offices—two in Princess Anne, one in Salisbury and the fourth in Easton. Each location provides specialized services in addition to substance abuse treatment.

Owned and operated by Dr. Kathryn Seifert, ESPS is a private for-profit organization that works to bring affordable mental health and substance abuse recovery care to individuals and families who would otherwise have difficulties paying for services.

Treatment and Staff

The alcohol and drug treatment program provided by ESPS is individualized and tailored to each client’s primary needs and progress in their recovery. There are no detox services available and clients must be ready to participate fully in the program, remaining abstinent during the treatment process. All clients are assessed for the acuity of their chemical dependence and mental health status. Once accepted, they are enrolled in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) tailored to meet their needs. Working with their primary counselor, recovery goals are established as well as a treatment schedules.

The IOP track meets three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for three hour groups. Group therapy sessions are facilitated by CADCs and LCSWs and focus on psycho-education, relapse prevention techniques and DUI awareness. Counselors utilize CBT and DBT techniques in addition to Motivational Interviewing (MI) and other practices. Separate age-specific groups are facilitated for adolescents and adults with focuses that are appropriate for each peer group.

Clients arrange individual therapy appointments with their primary counselor who also provide dual diagnosis support if needed and may arrange for clients to be prescribed medication. Each location has a Psychiatrist on staff to oversee medication management. Individual therapy focuses on treatment of depression, anger management and mood management.

In addition to group therapy, clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings for additional support in the community.

Extras

ESPS also offers a Family Advocacy Program—a family program devised to provide recovery and healthy behavior and tools to support each client’s recovery. Families not only attend regular groups with other ESPC families, but are also assisted in the home to ensure it is an environment conducive to recovery. Families work on communication skills, problem solving, daily living skills and how to properly support an individual in recovery.

In Summary

ESPS provides outpatient services for adults and adolescents from four locations throughout Maryland. With a flexible IOP clients receive care while living in the comfort of their home, meeting their work and family responsibilities. Three days a week, clients attend group and individual therapy as well as a family program that works with clients in their home to ensure a safe recovery environment. ESPS never turns away a client for their inability to pay, all services are provided on a sliding fee scale or through insurance.
