East Orange General Hospital ROAD Review

East Orange General Hospital is a community hospital in a suburb of Newark, New Jersey that provides a range of services for the local and neighboring communities. The hospital’s behavioral health wing addresses the needs of children, adolescents, adults and their families. The Raft Outpatient Addiction Department (ROAD) provides a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and outpatient services for adults over 18 who are battling addiction.

Each of the programs consists of individual and group therapy, consultations with medical doctors, medication management—as needed—and dual diagnosis support for clients with co-occurring disordersInpatient treatment and detox is not offered for clients who require more intensive care, though referrals can be made.

The PHP requires clients to attend group sessions five days a week between 9 am and 2:45 pm. Individual therapy is offered once a week, while a medical doctor performs an evaluation once a month. This program typically lasts from eight to 12 weeks. Groups focus on drug and alcohol education and relapse prevention. To help clients establish or repair relationships, they also teach social coping mechanisms. Participants are encouraged to attend on-site 12-step meetings.

The outpatient program requires clients to meet for one to three groups and one individual session weekly, as well as attend a monthly visit with the medical doctor. Clients who complete the PHP typically step down into the IOP or outpatient program once their initial phase of treatment is complete. Clients remain in the outpatient and aftercare programs until the goals set by their counselors have been met.
