East Mississippi State Hospital Review
East Mississippi State Hospital offers chemical dependency treatment for adult men in Meridian, Mississippi. This short-term residential program provides 24-hour support to help clients build a solid foundation for sobriety. EMSH’s treatment is individualized and focuses on the 12-step path to sobriety.
Accommodations and Food
The 25-bed facility offers double-occupancy bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as a common area with a television, therapy rooms, a meeting room, dining area and a nurses station. Smoking is not permitted on-site. Residents receive three meals a day, with access to coffee during meal times. Outside food or snacks are not permitted but special dietary requests can usually be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
EMSH provides social detox, which involves monitoring and therapy rather then medical care and is generally best for clients with only mild to moderate substance issues. However, medication can be administered if needed.
The follow-up 28-day residential program is based on the 12 steps and psychoeducation. Clients attend weekly individual therapy and on-site AA/NA meetings, as well as several group sessions a day. Topics discussed during group include the steps, relapse prevention and communication skills. Though the main focus of treatment at EMSH is substance abuse, mental health issues can also be addressed.
Before completion of the program, clients meet with their counselors and create a discharge plan for continued sobriety. Staff consists of nurses, psychiatrists and LADCs.
Extras
The hospital provides acute psychiatric services and similar chemical dependency services to adolescent boys. The facility also has a nursing home for seniors.

Through 12-step support and regular therapy, East Mississippi State Hospital brings quality care to those suffering from substance abuse. Though a medical detox is not available, the program still does offer medical staff and basic support for co-occurring mental issues.
