East County Center for Change Review
Based out of El Cajon, California, East County Center for Change is one of many behavioral health facilities operated by Mental Health Systems. The outpatient program works exclusively with clients sentenced through drug court and provides case management and treatment for drug and alcohol addiction.
Treatment and Staff
To qualify for treatment, clients must have substance abuse issues in conjunction with criminal charges; however, violent or sexual offenses and those convicted of making illegal substances are not eligible.
All treatment plans are individualized and typically include group and individual therapy with additional support for clients with co-occurring disorders. Programs lasts for a minimum of one year and include regular (and random) drug testing. Though not offered on-site, referrals for detox, residential treatment, sober living and other mental health programs are available as needed. Depending on specific court orders, clients may be required to attend 12-step meetings as well.
Staff consists of CATCs, psychologists, LMFTs and other Master’s-level therapists.
Extras
Aftercare is built into the primary care program and lasts for six months. Clients can receive referrals for employment or counseling on how to further their education.
The program also works closely with professionals in the criminal justice system, including court support staff, DAs, public defenders and police liaisons.
