Brighton MassachusettsEast Coast Recovery Service: The Strathmore House Review

Located in Brighton, Massachusetts, East Coast Recovery Services offers sober living for men at The Strathmore House. While living at TSH, residents engage in life skills groups, 12-step meetings, vocational coaching and recreational activities. All men are treated individually and are provided quality support to develop a healthy sober life. Homes are within close proximity to the city of Boston, allowing clients access to an abundance of employment, educational and volunteer opportunities.

Accommodations and Amenities

The Strathmore House is located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Brighton, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. It accommodates 29 men in single- and double-occupancy bedrooms, with single rooms reserved for clients who have been in the program the longest. The facility provides 24-hour supervision, seven days a week. Décor is contemporary and comfortable.

The Strathmore House also operates on-site life skills groups Monday through Friday starting at noon. During this time, clients are taught basic shopping, cooking, transportation and job readiness skills. There’s an on-site AA meeting every Wednesday at 8 pm and an hour-long yoga class held every Thursday. On weekends, residents attend community recreation events such as sports games, paint ball, white-water rafting and outings to the beach or fishing.

Men are required to shop for their own groceries and to prepare breakfast and lunch for themselves. Dinner is catered and shared family-style. After each meal, time is set aside for clean-up to ensure the house is tidy and men are developing self-care skills.

Rules and Regulations

Upon admission, men must be completely abstinent from drugs and alcohol. Residents are not required to be employed or enrolled in school when entering the program, although as part of support services, they meet with a vocational sober coach who helps determine the next step forward in their careers. Additionally, men must be actively working a 12-step program and are required to attend a minimum of four to five off-site meetings a week. All clients are also asked to participate in at least an hour of daily exercise.

The sober living program has no specific duration but accommodates each individual’s needs. During the week, lights must be out by 11 pm (with exceptions made based on work schedules). Weekend curfew is extended to midnight.

Extras

All clients have access to case management services.

In addition, those in need of medication management and/or medical assistance can work with the clinical consultant at TSH who collaborates with an off-site team of professionals to help clients determine a treatment agenda.

Summary

The Strathmore House provides sober living for men in recovery with structured support for maintaining sobriety. Residents develop a sober community by immersing themselves in the 12 steps and focus on improving life skills. Additionally, East Coast Recovery encourages clients to live a full life and schedules social and recreational activities. The men must work on their physical recovery daily in support of total wellness, making the Strathmore House a solid choice for men wishing to develop autonomy and independence following primary treatment.
