East Coast Recovery Review

Situated on the East Coast of England in the coastal town of Lowestoft, East Coast Recovery (ECR) is a treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. Founded in 2008 by current director Lester Morse, the facility believes in treating the “whole person” rather than the disease. To this end, East Coast Recovery offers individualized programming and a continuum of care including detox and a residential program, as well as sober living and aftercare services. ECC utilizes a multifaceted therapeutic approach that integrates the 12-step recovery model with evidence-based, neuroscientific and holistic methods.

Accommodations and Food

Clients of the residential program stay in upscale Victorian houses mere minutes from the beach and forests. ECR promotes an atmosphere with a premium on community. To this end, residents share rooms with peers. Bedrooms are equipped with nice furnishings, twin-sized beds as well as a desk, sink, cabinet space and plenty of natural sunlight. There is also a spacious lounge with comfortable leather couches. Residents enjoy a range of fun sober activities during the evenings and weekends, including movie nights, bowling, canoeing and go carts.

ECR provides an on-site culinary team that provides healthy, well-balanced meals meant to replenish the body of needed nutrients. Individuals with dietary restrictions and preferences can be accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

Upon intake, clients undergo a comprehensive medical assessment that helps the staff determine the most effective treatment plan to meet the specific needs of the client. If deemed necessary, clients immediately enter into the detox program. ECR provides a two-week medical detox that includes medication to ease withdrawal symptoms, evidence-based therapy, an introduction to the 12-step recovery program and around-the-clock medical supervision. Upon completion of the detox, clients typically enter the residential program.

While the length of residential care varies depending on the specific needs of the client, the standard treatment program is three months. While the cornerstone of residential treatment is the 12-step recovery model, ECR uses an approach that integrates an array of therapeutic methods including evidence-based, neuroscientific and holistic methods as well as a family program. ECR expects clients to take responsibility for their own recovery. As such, clients are assigned a primary therapist as well as a key worker that oversees the 12-step process. Clients are kept busy while in treatment, participating in regular one-to-one counseling sessions, 12-step meetings, group CBT sessions as well as art and drama therapy that fosters self-expression.

ECR also incorporates cutting-edge neuroscientific methods including Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), mental imaging and functional MRI’s. These advanced treatments indicates that the brain can repair itself. In addition, the facility offers comprehensive psychoeducation covering a range of topics like the science of addiction, problem solving skills, stress management as well as relapse prevention.

The East Coast Recovery team is comprised of addiction specialists, medical doctors, counselors, therapists, a nursing team and support staff. Medication management is available.

Extras

ECR believes that family support is an integral component to the success of a sustainable long-term recovery. To this end, once clients have completed two weeks of the program, family and significant others are invited to attend a “family meeting.” An staff interventionist helps open the lines of communication between client and family, and openly discuss the family’s role in enabling addiction.

The facility accepts voluntary self referrals as well as referrals from friends, relatives and statutory bodies.

In Summary

Situated minutes from the beach in Lowestoft, East Coast Recovery specializes in the care of clients struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. The facility offers a two week medical detox with 24/7 supervision and a 12-week residential program that utilizes several therapeutic methods including 12-step recovery, evidence-based CBT sessions, individual and group therapy as well as neuroscientific and holistic methods. For clients seeking a comprehensive detox and residential program, upscale accommodations and a dedicated staff, East Coast Recovery is a great option.
