The Basics
D’Wayne Holiday of Saving of Serenity (SOS) Interventions in Tennessee offers full service, affordable intervention and aftercare for those struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. SOS offers individualized treatment plans that are based on the 12-step philosophy for adults and a specialized service for adolescents, as well as a family program.
The Background
Holiday grew up in Tennessee and served in the US Marines as a young man. He had a DUI in his early 20s, this gave him a wake-up call about his alcohol use although he did not get sober until later. He began his career in the recovery field in 2000 shortly after getting sober, working at several treatment centers before he returned to school to obtain his Master’s degree in psychology. Holiday also holds a BA in healthcare management, certificate in addiction studies and is a Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC), Board Registered Interventionist (BRI) and Certified National Drug and Alcohol Interventionist. He has also worked teens, providing addiction awareness training for north Mississippi youth while serving his internship at the Department of Mental Health. He founded SOS Interventions in 2010.
The Approach
As an interventionist, Holiday utilizes the invitational approach. He maintains a relationship with the family members and the client throughout every step of the process. He meets with the family a day or so before the intervention takes place to calm the nerves of the loved ones and help with educating them about the disease of addiction. He facilitates the different levels of treatment, which can be a short or long term residential, to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and aftercare.
Holiday will arrange for the client to be taken to the treatment facility and also provide check-ins during their stay. He takes his time to make sure he’s setting the individual up with the right facility match, whether that means a facility that is suited for those with a dual-diagnosis, or simply if the client expresses personal concerns about where they are going. He also offers a structured regimen of individual therapy to the family members during this time, and resources for support groups, like AA or Alanon. Much of his help during this process is assisting the loved ones in recognizing their co-dependency and allowing them to break that cycle so they can also heal. After the client leaves the facility Holiday offers coaching or counseling services for up to a year.
