Dunamis, Inc. Review
Founded by Orlando Gillam in 2003, Dunamis, Inc. provides outpatient substance abuse treatment, as well as dual diagnosis support for financially challenged clients. This small rehab is located in Fresno, California, an area that has a plethora of 12-step meetings. The Dunamis philosophy is that adults and adolescents suffering from chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders can heal, provided that they are in a safe and non-judgmental environment.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment length varies per client. Prior to admission, an in-person evaluation with a counselor is completed and clients receive individualized treatment plans. Weekly schedules typically include individual therapy (scheduled per client’s needs), four group sessions and one case management meeting.
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers groups on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Dunamis uses evidence-based approaches, specifically CBT and DBT, as well as traditional psychotherapy. Clients are offered opportunities to discuss traumas or other troubling events in their lives. Group topics include relapse prevention, trauma, parenting and substance abuse awareness.
While Dunamis does not use a 12-step approach during treatment, clients are encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings in the local community. Groups average about ten clients per session.The young adult program is offered from one pm to three pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Group topics parallel those offered in the adult program, but also address issues pertaining to adolescent clients. Besides Gillam, who is the rehab’s president, there are approximately eight members on staff including a MFTs, case managers, CSACs and peer support specialists.
Extras
Dunamis provides Spanish-speaking services as well as referrals for sober living facilities. The rehab also accepts Medi-Cal health insurance. A family program is offered from four pm to 5:30 pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
In Summary
While Dunamis does not provide detox or luxury accommodations, this rehab offers a family-style environment. Offering much-needed bilingual and low-income services, Dunamis strives to provide high-quality care to clients who desperately need help but can’t afford to go to rehab.
