The Basics
Based out of Mumbai, India, Drug Abuse Information Rehabilitation and Research Centre (DAIRRC) is a broad behavioral health organization that conducts research and provides flexible treatment plans to clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Founded in 1982, DAIRRC provides community-oriented care and individualized treatment plans. DAIRRC’s main option is its residential treatment program, which is open to both men and women.
Accommodations and Food
All told, the DAIRRC rehab center is a sprawling, country compound with room for up to 30 residents at a time. Clients stay in gender-separate, double rooms with queen sized beds, scenic views, dressers and spare decor. In addition to the bedrooms, the compound also includes outdoor gardens, meditation areas, an indoor swimming pool, exercise equipment, therapy rooms, a club house with a pool table and shared common areas as well. Throughout their stay, clients are served three home-cooked meals a day.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all residents go through an intake and assessment process to help staff members develop their individualized care plans. Those in need of detox services can do so on-site with medical supervision and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) whenever necessary before continuing onto therapy.
Once stabilized, clients attend full days of treatment that includs both individual and group therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). In addition to these methods, the organization also encourages 12-step recovery and holistic care methods such as meditation, yoga and mindfulness training. Residents are encouraged to develop a sense of spirituality as well.
The staff at DAIRRC consists of doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, certified addiction counselors and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
In addition to psychotherapy and psychiatric support, residents are also encouraged to participate in social and physical activities, which can include outdoor sports with the other residents at the facility. DAIRRC also integrates educational and research groups about HIV/AIDS and holds periodic international conferences on HIV/AIDS and substance abuse in conjunction with the United Nations Drug Control Program. Once clients complete a primary care plan, they can also work with staff members to develop discharge and aftercare plans as necessary.
