Dragonfly Transitions Ashland Review

Located 180 miles south of Eugene, Oregon in the small city of Ashland, Dragonfly Transitions is a treatment organization that provides comprehensive care for young adults struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders, eating disorders and learning disorders as well as process addictions like technology. The Joint Commission accredited Dragonfly Transitions founded the Ashland location in 2014. It’s for clients transitioning out of the main campus in Klamath Falls. The facility provides medical services and medication management for individuals with co-occurring mental health conditions such as trauma and depression.

Accommodations and Food

The Ashland campus is situated near both the Cascade and Siskiyou Mountains. Ashland is an active community with a lot to offer. The campus not only provides students a supportive home environment but also a number of opportunities to become involved. Students stay in a two-story family-style home with accommodations for up to 12 male and female students. Residents share a bedroom equipped with comfortable twin-size beds, nice furnishings, storage, high ceilings and plenty of space. There are plenty of books available as well as places for both privacy and socializing.

Ashland places a premium on nutrition. As such, residents enjoy a healthy menu with plenty of options for individuals with dietary restrictions. There are nutrition and cooking classes available.

Treatment and Staff

Dragonfly does not believe in a “one size fits all” approach to treatment. Before beginning the program, clients undergo a comprehensive intake health assessment that includes medical and psychological components. Students speak at length with the intake team about their current circumstances and history of substance use. From there, the Dragonfly team designs the most effective possible personalized treatment plan tailored to address the specific needs and goals of the person. Clients also meet with the academic director to determine the best course of action. Students are put in a position to succeed socially, therapeutically and academically. While the length of stay varies from person to person, students typically participate in Dragonfly for between nine and 12 months. Their stay at Ashland depends on their needs.

Students at Ashland are encouraged to find and develop their strengths through a focus on hard work and mutual respect. The facility employs a client-centered model of care that integrates a number of therapeutic methods including evidence-based therapies, psychoeducation, recreation and mentoring. Clients engage in individual and group therapy sessions with therapists trained in CBT, DBT, EMDR and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help resolve indifference. The facility offers a range of psychoeducation courses that cover nutrition, the nature of addiction, sex education, general wellness, gender-specific issues and relapse prevention. It’s worth noting, the 12-step recovery model is not a major curriculum component at the Ashland campus.

Dragonfly employs a team of therapists, psychiatrists, counselors, nurses, tutors, an academic director and mentors. As previously mentioned, medication management and medical services are available for individuals with co-occurring conditions.

Extras

Ashland also offers holistic practices like yoga, mindfulness meditation, art and music therapy.

There are a academic and vocational opportunities as well as life and career skills training. Mentoring is an integral aspect of the entire Dragonfly experience.

Residents are encouraged to attend classes while at Ashland. The local schools include Southern Oregon University, Ashland Institute of Massage and a community college. Study halls and tutoring sessions are available.
