Located in West Los Angeles, California, Dr. Stubbeman is a psychiatrist that specializes in the treatment of clients struggling with major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and tinnitus. Treatment and Staff
Upon entering treatment with Dr. Stubbeman, clients undergo a comprehensive intake assessment that helps the team create an individualized treatment plan. While the length of treatment varies depending on the needs of the client, a comprehensive TMS plan usually involves five treatments a week for four to eight weeks. TMS is provided as an outpatient service and performed without any need for anesthetic. The sessions last anywhere between 15 and 45 minutes.
TMS therapy is a revolutionary noninvasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms. The procedure has been shown to be very effective in treating depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and tinnitus, by stimulating neurons in specific regions of the brain that control mood. TMS is often utilized after traditional treatments like medications and psychotherapy have been unsuccessful. Unlike medications, there are no side effects and the positive effects are long-lasting.
Dr. Stubbeman also utilizes QEEG and neuronavigation. QEEG, often called brain mapping, measures electrical patters on the scalp to get a greater understanding of brain activity. The recorded brain waves are then compared with the MRI brain scan. Neuronavigation is used in addition to QEEG to target the most effective areas of the brain to emit TMS. Neuronavigation pinpoints exact reference points using a three-dimensional MRI brain scan. Since Dr. Stubbeman primarily offers outpatient TMS treatments, medication management and 12-step recovery are not components of the programming.
Dr. Stubbeman’s team is a certified TMS psychiatrist who has trained at Duke and Harvard. His team is comprised of a TMS technician and an administrative director.
Dr. Stubbeman provides the option of theta burst stimulation, a more robust form of TMS that administers three times the magnetic pulses as traditional TMS. The facility promotes theta burst stimulations as the optimal treatment choice for clients when other treatments have failed.
