Dominion House Review

Dominion House offers sober living for men in Los Angeles, California. Dominion operates two residential homes and a collection of six apartments in the Ladera Heights neighborhood, near Culver City. The homes are conveniently located near the 10 freeway and within walking distance of business and shopping districts, as well as multiple recovery meetings.

Dominion House has been in operation for nearly a decade and is owned by a father-and-son team, Mike Jr and Mike Sr, who are both in recovery. The homes require abstinence and provide a close-knit, family-like environment that encourages meaningful employment and working the 12 steps.

Accommodations and Amenities

The residential homes have three and four bedrooms, housing six to eight residents. The apartments usually have two bedrooms, housing four residents. Private rooms are available for an additional fee. The accommodations are modern and modest. The homes and apartments have plenty of amenities, such as on-site laundry, Wi-Fi, satellite TV and parking spaces. The residences also have yards, where Dominion hosts barbecues and residents can gather for games and recreation.

Rules and Regulations

Dominion House is committed to a zero tolerance policy and conducts frequent and random drug tests. It strives to create a motivating and healthy atmosphere and is selective in its admissions; most clients arrive at Dominion after having completed inpatient treatment and/or while enrolled in a nearby outpatient program.

Dominion employs three house managers who pay individual attention to each client and check in with them frequently to see how they’re progressing on their recovery goals. During the week, residents must be awake by 8:30 am and return home by 11 pm. On weekends, they must be up by 10 am and return to their residence by 1 am.

Each Wednesday evening, residents are required to attend a house meeting. On Tuesday evenings, Dominion hosts a Big Book study group, and on Sundays it hosts an open 12-step meeting. Upon arriving at Dominion, residents are required to attend a 12-step meeting each day. As they progress, the requirement lessens. All clients are also required to find a sponsor and participate in their home’s chore rotation.

Extras

Dominion’s owners and house managers have comprehensive knowledge of the recovery and mental health treatment options in the area and refer clients in need of additional treatment to nearby therapists, psychiatrists and outpatient programs.

In Summary

Dominion House strives to help men build satisfying lives in recovery by offering a structured and supportive sober living community. Residents participate in daily 12-step meetings and multiple weekly groups and receive consistent check-ins from Dominion’s house staff and owners. Residents are welcome to stay as long as they’d like, knowing that when they leave they’ll continue to have the community and support of Dominion’s staff and alumni.
