Dirk EldredgeThe Basics

Dirk Eldredge is a Certified Intervention Professional (CIP), Board registered Interventionist (BRI), a CADC and self-described former “highly functioning addict.” Now sober for many years, Eldredge is a co-founder of Alchemy Interventions in Los Angeles, and works as the “Chief Recovery Officer” Jaywalker Lodge in Carbondale, Colorado.

The Background

As a young man, Eldredge attended USC, which is where his addictions began to manifest. After many stints in the hospital due to his drinking and drug abuse, he was given an intervention by his friends and ended up going through treatment at Creative Care in Malibu. After he left the facility he decided to go back to school and pursue a career in recovery by becoming an addiction counselor. He went on to train as an interventionist under one of the pioneers in the field, Ed Storti. He has been an interventionist for over ten years, and works as a life coach as well. In 2014, he completed a four-year stint as the Life Skills Coaching Consultant with the 2014 Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks. Seattle Seahawks.

The Approach

Eldredge approaches every intervention in a loving and respectful way, and works to unite the family together, as he believes the healing process is not only for the individual, but also their loved ones. He believes that only achieving abstinence and long-term sobriety shouldn’t be the only goal, and emphasizes that learning to cope with the struggles of day-to-day life.

The intervention process begins with an individualized assessment with the client’s family members so that Eldredge can gather information regarding the individual’s habits and social function. If it is determined by Eldredge that the family should move forward with an intervention, he helps guide them in finding the right treatment facility for the client and maintain communication throughout the process. He also works with the treatment centers to make the transition out of residential as smooth as possible for the client. If the particular client isn’t able to attend a treatment because of work or family obligations, there are programs offered at Alchemy Intervention where Eldredge or one of his associates is able to coordinate their treatment in their homes as well.

Once the client completes treatment, Eldredge works with family members to execute an aftercare plan that may involve coordinating with a sober living facility, finding an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and connecting them to their community’s 12-step meetings. During this part of the process, Dirk keeps the lines of communication open with the family members, and suggests counseling or support groups that may help in their healing process. This continuing care service typically lasts from six months to a year.

Post-Intervention and Summary

Eldredge is an example that even in one’s darkest hour, they can turn their situation around and come out the other side stronger. His laid back, loving approach gives the client and family confidence that they are making healthy choices and changing their lives for the better.
