Columbus OhioDirections for Youth and Families Review

Directions for Youth and Families is a non-profit mental and behavioral health treatment organization with a range of services and locations that serve individuals with substance abuse and addiction issues. With five locations spanning across Delaware and Franklin counties of Ohio, DYF offers an outpatient treatment and prevention program for youth between the ages of 12 and 18. Using a combination of evidence based treatment and the 12 steps, the Directions recovery program relies on a traditional and proven model of recovery.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at Directions is tailored for at-risk youth with a strong emphasis on prevention. The outpatient track is individualized with each treatment plan designed to meet the special needs of each client, factoring in severity of the substance abuse, age, gender and their behavioral history. A treatment plan is developed after the initial evaluation and assessment of the client.

Services offered utilize CBT and DBT methodology and include individual counseling, group counseling and aftercare. Individual sessions are scheduled independently and group sessions are held three times a week.

Addiction education is also offered as part of treatment and while the 12 steps are not integrated into the program, clients are strongly encouraged to get involved with a peer-support group outside of treatment. Prevention classes and lectures are also offered weekly for clients and community members.

The staff at Directions consists of LSWs, LPCs, LCSWs and psychologists.

Extras

In addition to Direction’s substance abuse treatment and prevention programs, a variety of services and programs are available for both those in treatment and the community at large. Outreach counseling programs for at-risk youth, counseling for sexual abuse victims, counseling for children who witness or who are victims of violence, anger management counseling and counseling for children of murdered parents or siblings are all available.

The aftercare program typically consists of one individual session every other month and a group session every other week.

In Summary

The Directions for Youth and Families outpatient substance abuse treatment program is intended for at-risk youth with a solid focus on prevention. The individualized treatment allows clients to personalize a program that is best suited for their needs while still receiving proven evidence-based treatments and therapies.
