Roxbury MassachusettsThe Basics

The Dimock Center was founded in 1862 as a hospital for women and children and over time it has grown to be a health and human services provider for low-income families in and around the Boston area. Located in the Boston suburb of Roxbury, Massachusetts, My Sister’s House at the Dimock Center is a long-term inpatient substance abuse treatment program for women in recovery.

Food and Accommodations

My Sister’s House clients are accommodated in a home-like setting with room for up to 22 women. All clients share rooms as well as communal bathrooms and shower facilities. There is a common living room, laundry facilities, a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. Meals are provided three times a day and include healthy options like salads, soups and vegetable dishes.

Treatment and Staff

My Sister’s House aims to be a healing community for women as they work through their recovery. Clients are initially assessed and evaluated to help counselors develop an individualized treatment plan. Each unique plan lays out the type of treatment that best suits the client, the frequency of these treatments and the client’s unique recovery needs.

Treatment options include individual and group therapy, educational seminars, vocational training, parenting skills, life skills and recovery support. As clients progress through recovery, their plans are subject to change as-needed.

Duration of treatment is typically 12 months, but may be shorter or longer depending on progress of recovery. The 12-steps are not included in treatment, but counselors may refer residents to local chapters upon completion of the program. My Sister’s House is also able to accommodate women receiving Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Suboxone or Methadone as well as women who are pregnant.

The staff at DCSH consists of detox counselors, LCSWs, LCDCs and LPCs.

Extras

In addition to My Sister’s House, The Dimock Center offers an array of other behavioral and health services to clients and the community at large. A men’s inpatient substance abuse treatment program, transitional housing, outpatient services, emergency services, child and family services, dental care, eye care, obstetrics and gynecology and community health are all available.

In Summary

My Sister’s House at the Dimock Center is a solid program for those seeking a gender-specific, long-term inpatient program for women. This program bases its treatment on highly individualized plans and offers a wide variety of evidence-based practices and treatment options.
