Inglewood CaliforniaThe Basics

Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services was founded in the 1930s in an effort to help women affected by the Great Depression. Originally named Los Angeles Psychiatric Service, it was renamed to honor its long-time benefactor—Didi Hirsch—in the 1970s. In 1979, it opened Via Avanta, a long-term residential treatment program for women, and has now also has several outpatient locations in Los Angeles, including Mar Vista Center, Glendale Center, Culver-Palms Center and Inglewood Center.

As part of California’s Drug Medi-Cal program, Inglewood Center’s program is designed for low-income residents administered by California’s Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). Additionally, it provides general counseling and suicide prevention services throughout Southern California.

Treatment and Staff

Prospective clients of Inglewood Center have three intake sessions to collect personal info with regards to substance use history, lifestyle and acuity, after which they’re admitted to the program. Clients then receive an individualized treatment plan that includes 12 weeks of group therapy, meeting once or twice a week. Clients who need individual therapy or have a dual diagnosis are referred to a therapist at one of Didi Hirsch’s behavioral health locations.

Groups are led by LMFTs and LCSWs who use CBT and Seeking Safety in sessions. While clients are not required to attend 12-step meetings while enrolled in treatment, they are strongly encouraged to do so.

Extras

Didi Hirsch’s Culver City location provides substance abuse assessments and referrals for additional treatment. Its Mar Vista facility’s services are limited to one-on-one counseling for substance-abusing adolescents.

In Summary

For over 80 years, Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services has been providing residents of Southern California with mental health and substance abuse treatment through a variety of prevention, outpatient and residential treatment programs. Inglewood Center is dedicated to offering evidence-based outpatient care to low-income clientele. Didi Hirsch’s large network of behavioral health therapists, case managers and locations make it a good choice for those who would benefit from additional support outside the scope of substance abuse treatment.
