Diamond Ranch AcademyDiamond Ranch Academy Review

Diamond Ranch Academy is a residential treatment center and therapeutic boarding school for boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18. Diamond Ranch Academy operates six separate programs on a 55-acre campus in Hurricane, Utah. The goal of the Ranch is for students who have struggled with addiction and behavioral problems to experience a safe, structured high school experience without the negative aspects of public school or the stigma of troubled teen programs.

In 1999, the founders of Diamond Ranch Academy, Rob and Sheri Dias, started the Boise, Idaho program with wilderness components and chemical dependency treatment. In the subsequent years, the program grew and relocated to southern Utah. All treatment combines evidence-based methods with education and life skills training. Diamond Ranch Academy provides also psychiatric services for those who need dual diagnosis support as well as treatment for chemical dependency.

Accommodations and Food

Diamond Ranch Academy is a beautiful campus that accommodates up to 198 girls and boys. The treatment, housing, educational activities, medical care, meals and therapy are all facilitated in the main building. It’s a custom-built, two-story housing complex and school, with males and females housed in separate sections in dorm-style bedrooms and bathrooms. Sleeping quarters are furnished with twin beds and linens, as well as storage areas for personal belongings. Gender-specific dining halls, lounges and dorms are located on opposite sides of the same building.

Additionally, the huge facility has a computer lab, library, wood shop, gym with a fitness center, full-sized football field, skate park and golf course. Food is served in a large cafeteria with plenty of healthy options as well as comfort food. Residents eat separately in the aforementioned gender-specific dining halls. Sugar intake is monitored and caffeine is not allowed.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at Diamond Ranch Academy typically lasts between eight and 12 months and is individualized for every client. The six treatment tracks offered allow the facility to provide specific, customized care for students depending on their age and gender. Treatment in all programs incorporates group and individual therapy to motivate clients to commit to a change and set recovery goals. Clients also learn life skills, coping skills, how to navigate situational problems and functioning with co-occurring disorders.

Since all residents also simultaneously attend school, learning disabilities are taken into consideration when designing a recovery program and medication management is available if required. There is a special focus on building healthy relationships with family members, learning study skills, physical fitness and appropriate ways to deal with stress. Family members are also integrated into the treatment process and participate in therapy.

The staff at Diamond Ranch boasts an impressive group of medical, academic and treatment professionals. The clinical team includes LCSWs, MFTs, nurse practitioners, a medical doctor and psychiatric nurses. Additional staff includes a chiropractor, specialized coaches and educators who lead sports teams and teach fine arts, medical support staff, kitchen staff and counselors specifically trained to handle admissions and parent communications.

Extras

The Ranch has a comprehensive family program that integrates loved ones in the recovery process, helping to develop healthy communication skills.

The Diamond Ranch Academy boys’ football team were the 2015 state Champions. There is an emphasis on team sports for both genders at the Ranch to help struggling teens learn dedication, trust and discipline by working together as a team. There are also a wide variety of clubs and activities for residents. These include 4H, photography club, fine arts and a specialized program for Native American youth.

In Summary

Diamond Ranch Academy provides residential treatment for young people who are struggling with substance abuse, but don’t want to miss out on the high school experience. By living on the beautiful campus and continuing to meet scholastic requirements while building healthy relationships and getting therapy, clients can immerse themselves in life while developing the tools required for lasting recovery. Parents and other loved ones are also integrated in to the process, so the entire family can recover together.
