DFL Recovery Review
DFL Recovery, which is operated by Designs for Living Community Services, is a substance abuse treatment facility located about an hour north of Los Angeles in Lancaster, California. DFL Recovery provides residential and outpatient care for adult men. DFL’s treatment combines evidence-based modalities, the 12-step philosophy, holistic healing and fitness. Detox is also available along with medication management for those in need of dual diagnosis support.
Accommodations and Food
Clients are housed in a beautiful single-family home in a nice neighborhood. The residence has four double-occupancy bedrooms, each furnished with two full or twin-sized beds. All clients have individual dressers and closet space. The home also has a fully-equipped kitchen, a living room with a flat-screen TV, a dining room and a separate room for group meetings. The outside area has a pool, outdoor gazebo, fire-pit and basketball court.
An on-site chef prepares three home-cooked meals daily. The menu includes hearty options like pasta, pizza and chicken. Every Saturday, residents take a trip to the grocery store where they can buy their own personal items and snacks.
Treatment and Staff
Length of treatment varies from 28 to 90 days, but a minimum commitment of 28 days is required. The on-site detox program offers Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for clients experiencing painful physical withdrawal symptoms from opiates or alcohol. Treatment is individualized and includes a structured schedule of individual therapy as well as daily group and educational sessions focused on the Big Book. Groups revolve around applying the principles of the 12 steps to develop communication skills and coping mechanisms, along with relapse prevention planning. Residents also receive education on topics like health and nutrition. There are on-site 12-step meetings several days a week and transportation is also offered to off-site meetings. As previously mentioned, specialized individual sessions and medication management are available to clients with co-occurring disorders.
Upon completion of the first 28 days, residents have the option to continue on or step down to the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The length of this program depends on the client and offers many of the same groups and step study workshops as phase one, along with vocational coaching. Residents are expected to seek employment and encouraged to assume responsibility for themselves and their recovery. Counselors provide guidance on where to look for work, how to apply for jobs online and how to create a resume. As graduation approaches, clients receive referrals for sober living and outpatient care, and work closely with their counselor to put a recovery plan into action.
The staff of DFL is comprised of Master’s-level counselors, a nurse and support staff, including those who are in recovery.
Extras
Occasional outings and recreational activities are available for residents, like attending sports games, hikes and team building exercises.
