Devereux Florida Review
Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health is a vast organization with locations through the US. Its 55-acre Viera, Florida campus offers a dual diagnosis program, psychiatric treatment and extended mental health programs. In addition to medical facilities there is also The Devereux School for continued academic success for grades K through 12. Treatment is individualized and utilizes evidence-based practices during individual and group therapy, psychoeducation and recreational therapies specifically for children and adolescents.
Accommodations
The campus, which is located in Brevard County, holds six residential units, one of which is the psychiatric hospital that alone offers up to 100 beds, while the other smaller facilities hold between eight and 12 in each. These housing units are comfortable and spacious, providing a home-like atmosphere with kitchens, living rooms and shared bedrooms, with some being more of a dorm style sleeping arrangement. The entire campus is private and offers lakefront views and tropical landscaping.
Treatment and Staff
One of the biggest benefits of receiving treatment at the Viera campus is how many options they offer to children and their families. There is a specialty program for co-occurring disorders, some that focus mainly on learning disabilities, some for at risk kids or those who have experienced trauma, independent living transitional programs, and much more. Devereux’s programs are all customized and use strength based treatment models in therapy along psychiatric medication management if needed.
Treatment tracks vary in terms of how long clients are expected to reside at the facility, though typically the dual diagnosis program runs about six months. Treatment includes group and individual therapy, relapse prevention, and attendance of 12-step meetings if the client wants them. During this time, depending on the age of the client, they may also be attending classes at accredited Devereux School, which not only provides educational programs but offers behavior modification treatment as well.
Treatment approaches can be CBT and DBT in conjunction with art and music therapies, expressive therapy and therapeutic activities, like recreation, play therapy, creative writing and gardening.
The multidisciplinary team of the Viera residential program is comprised of medical doctors and nurses, behavior analysts, two full time psychiatrists who are on site, a neuropsychologists and an endocrinologist.
Extras
Campus includes a family counseling center along with a program for families that offers support and assistance during visitation. There is also a foster care program through Devereux.

Devereux truly looks at each child as a whole person and not just a mental illness, which means also taking care of their medical needs and assessing every aspect of their lives. For these cases, treatment is geared not only towards the client but also the families, and the Viera campus does a great job at addressing every need in their lives and strives to provide them answers and solutions.
