Devereux California Review
The Devereux program in Goleta, California provides supportive care for adults with multiple diagnoses. Programs include residential, outpatient day programs, and community living programs that offer long term individualized care. Treatment includes individual and group therapy starting at age 18 until end of life for those with emotional disturbances, co-occurring disorders or those on the autistic spectrum. Accommodations and Food
The two residential living facilities, Casa Feliz and Mark Villa, are both home-like, spacious and comfortable. They house both men and women over the age of 18. Casa Feliz has five beds, and Mark Villa offers 10. There are both private and shared bedrooms in both homes with large, full kitchens, dining rooms, and spacious backyards with outdoor dining areas. Clients also have access to computers and a TV. All meals and provides for the clients who learn how to prepare their meals for themselves.
Treatment and Staff
Devereux integrates its unique model of care, which combines the latest medical advancements and evidence-based methods. Clients have access to psychiatric care, education and programming that is client-specific. Residential care has supervision 24 hours a day with staff that uses a behavioral positive approach and offers coping and life skills training, which is one of the main components of treatment.
Programming emphasizes the importance of resident goals to improve quality of life and eventually move into the community living program, which still gets supervised support from staff around 20 hours per week.
The day program at the California location provides real life vocational training, which includes resume writing, stress management, health and wellness, money management and assertiveness/self esteem. Clients have opportunities to volunteer at different businesses within the community including a farmers market. This program offers a lot of one on one interaction with staff members as the groups are usually broken up to numbers between three and six clients each.
Devereux California’s staff include clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, LCSWs, case managers, special education teachers, learning specialists and behavioral interventionists.
Extras
There is a respite community program for adolescents that provides recreational activities on campus. Family involvement is an important part of treatment in all of the Devereux programs and includes counseling and therapeutic training in some cases.
