Detroit East Health Services Review
Detroit East Health Services was founded in 1973 in Detroit, Michigan. The non-profit organization provides outpatient substance abuse treatment to adult men and women.
Treatment and Staff
Perspective clients begin with an in-person assessment where they discuss substance abuse history with counselors who then determine the necessary level of care. Detroit East Health does not currently offer detox. Treatment consists of individual and group therapy that employs evidence-based techniques, such as CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI), as well as relapse prevention, education and sharing. Groups focus on anger management, community life skills, domestic violence, health and wellness, parenting, stages of change, psychoeducation and trauma. Individual sessions are scheduled as needed. The exact length and intensity of the program is based on counselor assessment.
While treatment is not 12-step oriented, clients are encouraged to attend outside AA and NA meetings.
Detroit East is also equipped to treat clients with a dual diagnosis by way of individual therapy with a psychologist.
Staff consists of psychologists, case mangers, LMSWs and LPCs.
Extras
Additional services include individual family therapy with client’s consent. These meetings address family-related issues that may have contributed to substance abuse and help establish healthy communication practices between family members.
Detroit East also provides case management to help clients find employment, vocational training, sober housing and HUD housing.
