Destructive Behavioral Alternatives Review
Located in Dodge City, Kansas, Destructive Behavioral Alternatives provides outpatient treatment for substance abuse. Services include evaluations, individual therapy and alcohol and drug education with a pastoral counselor. Treatment and Staff
Prior to beginning treatment, clients are required to undergo an initial assessment. Detox is not offered on-site so those in need are expected to complete that phase of treatment before they arrive at Destructive Behavioral Alternatives.
Individual therapy is structured as 45-minute sessions with Barb Scott, a pastor and CADC who uses CBT to help clients delve into the underlying issues behind addiction. Sessions typically start out as once a week and gradually decrease over time. Barb also helps clients develop coping skills, work on relapse prevention and face various forms of shame, trauma, anger, resentment and guilt.
Extras
In addition to treating substance abuse, Barb Scott also offers general pastoral counseling. These sessions address spiritual health, relationships, navigating transitions and processing loss. Clients work on personal growth by developing communications skills, examining unexplored options and living a meaningful life. Scott also treats issues related to domestic violence and anger management.
For DUI clients, assessments and an eight-hour alcohol and drug education course is offered. This program meets on two consecutive Saturdays and covers the effects of substance abuse, current DUI laws, a self-assessment of drinking patterns and the various approaches to treatment.
