The Basics

Destiny Sober Living is a Phoenix, Arizona based hybrid residential treatment and transitional living program. It offers both men and women a place to stay while they are learning how to live as a sober and productive member of society. The women’s program uses evidence-based treatment models and the 12 steps to address any addiction or dual diagnosis concerns, with a specialty program for pregnant and postpartum women and women with children. In addition to comprehensive addiction treatment Destiny Sober Living also offers several services for families including therapy and education.

Accommodations and Food

The women’s facility is referred to as the Antelope House. It’s a three bedroom, three bath home in a quiet, residential neighborhood close to public transportation, grocery stores, and educational and vocational opportunities. The two story home provides all the basics that any client would need, such as a clean, stocked kitchen; living room with comfortable couches and a TV; a washer and dryer on site, and a back yard.

The food is provided by the facility while in the residential portion of treatment, though clients have to prepare their own meals and trade off making food for the entire house. The menu is put together at the beginning of the week by staff and clients.

Treatment and Staff

The women’s program through Destiny Sober Living offers gender-specific treatment that targets issues that are common amongst women with addiction and co-occurring disorders. For instance, the women’s program focuses on trauma, codependency, self esteem, body image, and communication and boundary setting in relationships. In addition, this program provides specialized treatment for expectant and postpartum mothers who have having trouble settling into parenthood by teaching life skills and stress reduction. This track allows for children to be with their mothers during the day, but they are not allowed to spend the night.

Programming is very structured and begins with an early morning wake up, followed up by a 12-step meeting. Typical days include recreational therapy, DBT groups, chores, medication management, music and art therapy, and fitness and nutrition groups.

The staff of Destiny Sober Living includes an LPCs, medical and naturopathic doctors and CADCs.
