Destiny Sober Living Outpatient Review

Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Destiny Sober Living offers residential and outpatient treatment for dual diagnosis issues. The outpatient program is individualized and combines evidence-based protocols with the 12-step philosophy. Destiny Sober Living is a CARF accredited facility originally established in 1997 as an operation that offered group home services, but quickly evolved to provide level two residential programming as well as outpatient tracks, programs for children, family services, DUI assistance and more.

Treatment and Staff

Destiny has a coed Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) as well as gender-specific care. Often times those who are participating in the outpatient tracks are recent graduates of the residential treatment and still residing in the sober homes affiliated with the program.

The outpatient tracks address an array of mental health and substance abuse issues, and medication management is incorporated. Common treatment approaches include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and cognitive processing therapy. The IOP is usually about nine hours a week of treatment that eventually steps down. There are group therapy sessions several times per week and at least one individual therapy session on a weekly basis.

The outpatient treatment covers topics like self esteem and self worth, communication, anger management, stress relief, living with illnesses, grief and loss and decreasing anxiety. Clients learn coping skills and how to avoid relapse. There are also specialty services for clients who are postpartum or pregnant, and for those who are suffering from mood disorders, like bipolar disorder or experience psychosis. In addition to these treatment approaches, exercise, recreational therapy, music and art therapy and nutritiodes are incorporated into programming as well.

The staff of Destiny Sober Living includes a medical staff, psychologists, LPCs, CADCs and interns.

Extras

During the outpatient stage clients families are also offered a number of counseling options and educational opportunities. There is an alumni aftercare group that meets once a month for events, and graduates are welcome to attend any treatment sessions in the evening.

In addition, there are services for Native American clients and their families that integrate traditional treatment methods with Native healers, smudging ceremonies and sweat lodges.

In Summary

The outpatient program at Destiny Sober Living is a perfect step-down track for those who have recently come out of the residential program, or for those who aren’t able to take time out of their lives to participate in an inpatient program, but need comprehensive care. The organization at large is a vital asset to the Greater Phoenix recovery community.
