Desert Hope Las VegasThe Basics

Desert Hope Las Vegas is one of American Addiction Centers’ luxury rehabs, though much more affordable than most upscale facilities. For those seeking residential treatment for substance abuse in the Las Vegas area, Desert Hope is a great option.

Accommodations and Food

With its attractive interior design, this 148-bed facility could pass for a boutique hotel. The front lobby features hardwood floors, a large selection of armchairs and love seats, floral arrangements and a fireplace. Each client shares a nicely sized room and bath with one other person. The bedrooms feature two queen-sized beds, an armchair and natural lighting.  For those who wish to get outside, the grounds feature relaxing fountains and walking paths.

A professional chef prepares three meals a day based on each client’s specifications and dietary needs. All meals are served in the large dining hall, although residents have the option of serving themselves if they wish. A typical meal can include several choices for the main entrée such as chicken breast, fajitas or ribs. For those who need something in between meals, snacks and caffeinated coffee are available throughout the day.

There are designated areas to smoke outside. No open packs or cartons of cigarettes are permitted.

Treatment and Staff

Upon admission, each client goes through an evaluation to assess detox needs, medical issues and medication requirements. Treatment typically lasts between 30 and 90 days. On-site medically monitored detox is available with round-the-clock care. From there, clients follow a schedule of group therapy and intensive individual therapy run by Master’s level therapists. Under Nevada’s strict requirements, the client-to-staff ratio is three-to-one.

Treatment modalities include Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT, RET and DBT. Groups also cover things such as life skills, trauma, relapse prevention and processing. Individual therapy happens at least twice a week with a primary therapist. In addition to the therapeutic work, clients are also introduced to the 12 steps. While participation in 12-step work is not mandatory, clients who have been at the center for two weeks or more can attend off-site meetings. During this supervised outside time, they can also pick up personal items and run errands.

In addition to weekly family therapy, Desert Hope offers a family program. This monthly two-day intensive includes educational lectures and both individual and group therapy with clients and their family members. For those who cannot attend the program, phone sessions with the primary therapist are also an option.

Extras

Off-site personal training and one massage are offered as complimentary services while in treatment. There are additional charges for extra massages or services such as acupuncture. American Addiction Centers also offers one free month of treatment for anyone who has completed the 90-day program and relapsed.

In Summary

Desert Hope is a bit of gem when it comes to getting the most bang for your rehab buck. Clients of this Las Vegas treatment program are afforded many of the amenities and plush environment offered at high-end facilities for a fraction of the price. Along with nature’s perks of palm trees and warm, healing desert air, clients of Desert Hope also have the option of choosing whether or not they would like to participate in 12-step recovery.

  1. Rehab Reviews has zero credibility. Their review of Desert Hope is laughable and pathetic. One of my patients went to Desert hope twice (40 days and 35days) and his insurance was billed for 130k. Yes, I said $130,000. Quite the bargain. Rehab Review- how much were you paid to publish this nonsensical review of desert Hope?

  2. I was a patient at Dessert NO HOPE. It was dirty, food sucked, drugs and sex everywhere. Need some sex, just go behind the bushes and get what you need. Facility broke HIPPA laws and contacted my employer to give them medical details about me. I was promised treatment for PTSD for First Responders. There was no such treatment and when I complained they just ignored it. When I told them I wanted to leave they refused to give me my things and had to be threatened with legal action. I would not suggest anyone go to the place. They may wave co-pays and such but it is not worth it. When I did escape I flew completely across the country to a different facility not run my AAC, what a difference. Best move I ever made was getting out of there.
    DO NOT GO HERE

    • My husband is a first responder he’s has been there for 4 days . After reading all theses reviews it really worries me because I thought he would be getting the best care here . But hearing there’s drugs and sex going on that is not ok . He wanted to come home today because he felt unsafe and said people are very disrespectful. Plus not being able to talk to him is hard cause I don’t really know how he feels and only know what they are telling me .

  3. I am saddened and suprised at all the negative comments!! When I was down and out, I would have rather died at the time. As I was contemplating ending it all, I saw a telephone number flash across my television screen. I called the number and was greeted warmly, this was the first time in my life I could remember someone genuinely wanted to help me! In two days time, I was on a plane to Las Vegas. When I got to the airport, a friendly person greeted me with my name on a sign. I was greeted and taken to a waiting limousine which then drove me to “Desert Hope”. I got there pretty early in the morning (3am) so I was a bit tired. I was offered something to drink and eat while I was admitted (lots of paperwork) which is standard in most hospitals. I viewed this as a place for me to get well, not a VACATION!!!! Desert Hope is a place (hospital) for the sick, however, it is NOT a day spa nor is it a resort!!! If a person is determined to fight their disease, Desert Hope is one of the best facilities to do so. I am speaking firsthand as I am one of those people who was there for 90 days. Not only did I get the help I needed, it was one of the best experiences of my entire life!!! It has been one year since my stay at Desert Hope, I am still clean, sober, WHOLE and no longer fragmented and dispondent. I was able to heal my mind, body, soul and spirit. Desert Hope is and was worth every penny!!! The experience and help you receive from a program is up to the individual and what they are looking for. I too was looking for feedback from others when I was looking for a place to go. If I had listened and took to heart all the negative comments I read about Desert Hope, I would never know how it is to live life sober. I would probably be dead by now!!!! I am greatful to the wonderful nurses and awsome staff of Desert Hope, they truly made my stay most comfortable. What I would say is this, if you go looking for negative you will get negative! If you go with a positive attitude, you will get a whole lot more out of it. Be Blessed!!

my wife went there in june of 2017, got home said the place wasnt good, sex behind bushes, drugs . didnt work for her, right back to chronic alcoholism in the first week home. called them back to ask for antabuse for her… said basically too bad soo sad. unless we can see her again, we live in ohio, dont go there! she has been 4 times to different rehabs 2 in Florida and this place. just want your ins money business is good! no help, hope she doesnt die! trying to find her help here. pray for Charleen please.

  4. Anyone know where I can post to warn people not to go to desert hopeless . A place more visible for people thinking about going would see rite away. I wish I had been informed or warned in advance.

  5. My 20 yo brother went there mid December and left the 28th. We were never notified and didn’t find out until the 8th of January! My brother is now a missing person in Las Vegas…this place is a JOKE. My brother made a few calls to my mother when he was there and said the place is dangerous and many other complaints about the facilities “services” or lack there of.

    • The same thing happened to my niece there recently. She left after a few days and has not been heard from in almost 3 weeks. The facility just said they can’t force them not to leave.

  6. My son went here for 5 days and was mistreated, and a staff member ASSULTED him and punched my son in the mouth. Thank GOD I got my son out of there.

    • I seen a bht push a client and I had to pull the client away. Nothing happened to the staff member. The head staff knows but they just cover it up. I’m very surprised that there is no lawsuit yet.

I am looking to start a class action suit. We all need to come together and close this place down. I was mislead by so many and refuse to send the insurance check to them. Let me know if anyone else us interested in a law suit.

  7. Omg. My husband just got there today. The woman who arranged everything for us waived the 500 dollars we were gonna have to pay in order for him to go. We thought it was a miracle. They paid for the two flights to get there and I thought it was too good to be true. After I read these reviews I’m terrified. They won’t let me talk to him at all. I know he’s going to go through detox but they won’t even let me talk to him on his first day there. I’m very worried now.

  8. My husband just arrived there. This is a first for him and we followed where our insurance company sent us. I’ve read all reviews. I guess I just wait? A little scared.

    • I was at desert hope for 30 days and the bhts are never held accountable for their actions, a fellow patient was raped while she was there, reported it and asked to call the police. They said she was lying and refused to call the authorities, which is ILLEGAL. Just the tip of the iceberg, the place was a Trainwreck. I’ve heard similar things about other American addiction centers. Also, before it was a rehab it was a hospice and more than half of the women there claimed the place is haunted, until a few of them were sent to the psych ward. Everyone kept real quite after that but crazy and unexplainable things kept happening. A nurse told me every group of patients that go through have the same complaints about the “hauntings” but are never taken seriously.

      • jesus christ! if I’m not mistaken you are talking about me! If not me then just goes to prove this is a regular occurrence. I was their march of 2017, I’m a transgender female, I was abused, forced to give up my female attire, made to dress as a man and housed on the men’s dorm. and then I was sexually assaulted by a male staff member, after I reported it and demanded to call the police I was denied, then sent to the psych ward on a 72-hour hold to keep me from reporting the incedent! thankfully I was released from the psych ward after a 25 min evaluation but the abuse didn’t stop there. I was left stranded in las vegas with no wallet or ID and they refused to return my meds, not narcotics, just like my estrogen! on top of it all, they called my family back home, with no hypa release and warned them that i would be looking for help and not to help me, telling lies about me and turning my wife and parents against me. I nearly died on the street looking for a safe way home. took me winding up dehydrated and septic in the er to convince my family that something was fishy with the story they had been told. the trauma I sustained there eventually led to the end of my marriage and my continued ptsd. the sex was constant in that place. truly a sick twisted place, I have never been the same since going here. I wish I could somehow erase this nightmare but the wounds are still lingering.

  9. This guy named “Jake” tried to get me to go there and I’m trying to get off suboxone. I’m sorry but it takes way more then 30 days to get off subs especially for how long I was taking them! He obviously had no experience in addiction. IF YOU OF ANY LOVED ONES WANT TO GET HELP DONT GO TO AMERICAN ADDICTION CENTERS.COM. All those people are, are recruiters and just try to get money from you. He asked if I could pay 2 grand out of pocket and told him that it is impossible for me to come up with that money and then he changed it to 2 hundred dollars…are you kidding me? Obviously there just salesmen and want money. I’m so glad I read these reviews because I’m a girl and I def don’t want any men to be hitting on me and try to get in bed with me like the last treatment center I went to. NEVER GO TO A COED treatment center! A coed center is just a red flag right there. I was actually really thinking about going after watching that video but after seeing all these comments about harassment, no way.

  10. OMG, IM SUPPOSE TO BE GOING TO THAT PLACE IN LAS VEGAS I AM SCARED TO DEATH NOW THAT IVE READ THESE COMMENTS AND TESTIMONIES…I AM REALLY FUCKED UP AND I AM NOT STRONG I WILL DIE THERE WHAT DO I DO TO GET OUT OF THIS

    • Wendy – This is Anna David; I’m the Editor-in-Chief of RehabReviews.com. We have over 2500 centers reviewed on our site. I suggest you do the research and figure out a place where you would be most comfortable. Go to the home page and start from there.

  11. Do not go I was there n all they care about is money Dee is just a bitch and the theriphst Dave is an ass he don’t care they call your family and tell them lies to keep you there. The sex there wow and drugs and the employees know I was there for 30 days and I just played their game you got to be strong headed to make it. Also there was a sexual assault there and all they did was send the guy to another place some nurses care but alot of them don’t I feel sorry for the ones that do care.

  12. Thank God I seen these reviews and others. I also have read some disturbing news reports about the San Diego location. I called these people and they blew up my phone 24/7. Very high pressure sales calls. Seems like taking advantage of people in need. Very Sad. I responded with the news reports and reviews and also why their stock has fallen back almost to the IPO level it was a year ago because of murder allegations, testing, etc and they laughed and played stupid. Any educated person knows that a companies stock price that is this volitile shows the health of the company isn’t good. What’s worse is the reasons the stock fell in the first place. They settled out of court for millions on murder charges.

MURDER CHARGED AT AMERICAN ADDICTION CENTERS

By Don Bauder, Aug. 3, 2015

    NEWS TICKER

Today (August 3) the stock of AAC Holdings, a Tennessee-based chain of drug and alcohol addiction treatment centers, plunged by almost 14 percent. But it landed at $32.79, which is more than double the price at which it went public last October, $15.

    Murder indictment filed in Riverside

It has been a soaring stock that murder charges could put into reverse gear. On July 21, the state attorney general’s office in Riverside County filed an indictment for murder against five present and former employees of the company, and companies that now have been folded into the chain of centers.

The charges relate to the alleged mistreatment of a person admitted to a facility in Murrieta. According to the company’s financial filings, it has paid $7.3 million to settle with the family of the person who died right after he was admitted

I was recently contacted and offered what seems to be an affordable 30+ day stay. I read these entries and I’m now concerned. How were Women taken advantage of? Why are people worse now then when they went in? Staff? The other people they let in? Or just the whole philosophy there in General? I only have 2 days if that before I travel from New England. Please tell me more and if there are positives because there must be.

      • Just returned from desert hopeless I went thinking they would offer something new it just was same bullshit painted turd, it felt like prison fighting, theft, I feared for my safety. Kinda like a prison yard it cracked me up people were screwing in the bushes but refused anyone condoms they did it anyway so unsafe sex brilliant, 12 step AA is all they pushed. No personal trainer no Gym no tv no phones no help DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY I watched them poison several folks with improper meds Im so happy to be home .Im drinking again but way more trying to forget the nightmare, And they made me pay for my ride home, LOL

    • How did your stay turn out to be? And what were the rules of this place? I’m also supposed to be going. Now I’m just scared.

I don’t think you understand it is a treatment center and confidential issues about people visiting. Its a HIPPA violation. It is not a hotel

    • jacquelin (jax) crocker on

THIS IS NOT A SAFE ENVIRONMENT….ESP. FOR WOMEN! I WAS A CLIENT THERE AND THANK GOD I MADE IT OUT WHILE MANY DID NOT HAVE THE MEANS TO DO SO…IT BROKE MY HEART!!! THE ABUSE IS INCREDULUOUS!!! AND AS FAR AS HIPPA LAWS GO, THEY ARE BREAKING THEM LEFT, RIGHT, SIDEWAYS, DIAGONALLY, ETC…..UNLESS YOU ARE JUST IGNORANT OR AND EMPLOYEE THERE, THINK AGAIN. I LIVED THE NIGHT MARE 24/7. I FINALLY MADE IT HOME A FEW DAYS AGO AND AM STILL EXPERIENCING NIGHTMARES AND MUCH STRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND ALSO, WE WERE ACUTELY AWARE THAT WE WERE NOT THERE ON VACATION, MS. SANDRA REYNOLDS.

  16. I went to the Desert Hope facility in Las Vegas today. I have been looking for a program for my brother. I was shocked at my greeting. No one there to answer my questions or inform me about the program. I was unable to look at the facility and was pretty much handed a card and told to leave.

People who visit are looking for solutions to some very big problems. Kissing them off with a business card is hardly the way to do it. Not only will I not be considering a remedy with Desert Hope and AAC, I will share my experience as I am doing now.

For a group that clearly in people business, They have a lot to learn about people.
