The programs at Deer Hollow focus on the individual and are totally inclusive, welcoming all walks of life dedicated to their recovery.
Treatment and Staff
Commonly clients who are transitioning out of the residential program, which lasts between 30 and 90 days on average, step down to the outpatient tracks. Deer Hollow recommends clients commit to a minimum of three months in the outpatient program while getting used to the idea of living a sober lifestyle.
There are two outpatient tracks offered at Deer Hollow: Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and standard outpatient. The IOP requires nine to 12 hours of programming every week, with three hours or so per day of treatment over three or four days. The OP is usually one to three days per week for about three hours at a time. During these treatment days clients work on relapse prevention, communication, establishing healthy boundaries and preparing to return to their communities. These outpatient treatment options are usually in a group setting, though there are individual sessions offered as well.
Clients receive a combination of treatment approaches. This includes a sound sensory room and biofeedback, expressive therapy, movement therapy, art and music therapy and trauma-informed care methods. There is a focus on self acceptance, recreational therapy, mind-body bridging and mindfulness approaches. Other therapeutic protocols include DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
Since the program also offers dual diagnosis care, there are medication management options provided throughout treatment and regular psychological evaluations.
The staff of the outpatient programs are all in recovery as well, which adds that extra bit of support due to the life experience. These staff members include psychiatrists, RNs, LPCs, LCSWs and LMFTs.
There is an alumni and aftercare program for those who graduate the inpatient and outpatient tracks. These are peer driven and guided groups that meet about once a month or so.
Deer Hollow’s outpatient program takes place in a beautiful part of Utah that really lends itself to the healing process. The program itself is very supportive and engaging, letting clients take their time and experience a number of alternative treatment options along with a hands on approach to recovery in the real world.
