David C. Deal PhD and Associates is a small private practice located in Defiance, Ohio, a small town about 55 miles southwest of Toledo. It offers several counseling services, but specializes in healing marriages and families. Treatment and Staff
Every new client fills out an online intake form that is available on the Practices website prior to their in person appointment. The facility itself has an inviting, comfortable vibe within the offices, with some rooms designated for one on one therapy sessions, and others for large, family groups. The sessions are set at about an hour, and within that time clients work with the counselors on their treatment goals and future plans, and are provided with tools for coping and communication.
Clients who come in for help regarding their substance abuse use the harm-reduction model and base their treatment on the 12-step philosophy. Clients receive psychoeducation about the disease of addiction and begin to explore the root of where their addiction began, and if they have a co-occurring disorder. Additionally, clients are encouraged to attend regular AA/NA meetings several times per week and get a sponsor.
David C. Deal and Associates is well versed in treating mood disorders such as depression and anxiety in adults and adolescents. The team also excels at examining underlying factors that may be contributing to the client’s current mental state. This can include dissatisfaction with work or home life, issues with body image and self esteem or past traumas. In many cases clients are treated with evidence based approaches, such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). In addition, if clients are recommended to seek out medication, the staff is easily able to coordinate those services.
The small staff are at least Master’s-level therapists who are licensed clinical psychologists and LPPC, and the clinic is also licensed with the Ohio Board of Health.
