Dade Family Counseling Review
Established in 1989, Dade Family Counseling (DFC) is a treatment facility that offers structured support and recovery from substance abuse. The certified staff provides outpatient counseling services for adults at three different facilities in Miami, Florida. All three locations are small community-based offices with intimate care. Clients at DFC are individually assessed to create proper treatment plans, though regular participation in a 12-step program is mandatory.
Treatment and Staff
A thorough evaluation is performed upon admission into the DFC substance abuse treatment program. The evaluation begins with a clinical interview, using a bio-psycho-social screen to properly assess each individual. This process can take place over the phone or in person. The duration of treatment varies depending on the severity of each individual’s addiction, however 90 days is recommended. On-site detox is not offered but referrals to an outside facility can be arranged upon request.
The outpatient program offered at Dade Family counseling includes a mixture of individual, group and family counseling. All sessions are an hour long and can be as frequent as once a day, depending on each client’s treatment plan. During therapy, counselors use a variety of evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT. These allow clients to identify negative behaviors and thought patterns, while stepping into a healthier way of being.
When it comes to the 12 steps, clients are required to attend at least one AA/NA meeting a week. Attendance at meetings is mandatory and working the 12 steps with a sponsor is encouraged. The philosophies of the steps are discussed in detail during group sessions. There is also regular testing for alcohol and drugs to monitor the progress of each client.
Staff members consist of licensed and certified psychologists, psychotherapists and LADCs with years of experience. While the program is affordable, clients must take initiative when it comes to financial responsibility during recovery process, meaning employment is strongly encouraged.

DFC offers a low-cost outpatient substance abuse program through a community-based agency that encourages family wellness and personalized treatment plans for addicts. While treatment at DFC uses a very basic approach, it does provide the necessary tools to build a strong foundation in recovery.
