Rick Hammersley Centre is a residential treatment facility located north of Perth in Western Australia. Founded in 1981 and part of the larger recovery network Cyrenian House, Rick Hammersley Centre is a therapeutic community divided into two sub-programs: mixed gender and a women and children’s program. The facility provides a strengths-based curriculum to heal and empower clients and their families.
Accommodations and Food
The Rick Hammersley Centre is situated 30 minutes north of Perth on a private 32 acre campus of scenic, native bushland. The mixed gender facility can accommodate up to 50 men and women. It keeps an additional six beds in reserve for people of aboriginal descent.
The women and children’s program residents stay in two and three-bedroom homes. The campus has 14 houses, with no family sharing a home. Above all, the facility seeks to strengthen and solidify the family bond while the mother participates in treatment. Children are never unaccompanied. There is a daycare on site.
Recreation and physical fitness are important aspects of the Rick Hammersley experience. It encourages residents to work out regularly at the gym or enjoy the outdoors. The Rick Hammersley Centre is smoke-free.
The facility offers a nutritious menu. It can accommodate clients with allergies or distrust restrictions with alternative options.
Treatment and Staff
For persons in need of detox, the facility connects them to a local partner. Both the mixed gender and women and children’s program include four stages. While the length of stay varies for each client, the facility recommends a minimum of 16 weeks. Many residents stay an entire year to receive the maximum benefit.
Rick Hammersley employs a multifaceted treatment model that includes an array of therapeutic methods. Residents participate in regular therapy groups, individual sessions and psychoeducation classes that focus on health, addiction, parenting, gender, sex and sexually transmitted diseases. Holistic practices include meditation and relaxation techniques. Clients learn relapse prevention skills and go to 12-step meetings.
The staff has therapists, case managers, psychologists and physicians. A general practitioner sees clients weekly. Medication management is available for dual diagnosis clients.
Residents that finish the Rick Hammersley program have the option to stay in sober living accommodations in Bedford or Baldivis. While there, Cyrenian House requires clients work, go to school or volunteer.
The Rick Hammersley Centre Therapeutic Community provides comprehensive care for clients struggling with addiction. The 32 acre campus is home to a mixed gender facility as well as 14 homes for families. Rick Hammersley offers an individualized curriculum that includes aftercare. For anyone in the area seeking long-term tailored programming in a supportive, open-minded atmosphere, Rick Hammersley is top notch.
