Crozer Keystone Community Hospital of ChesterCrozer-Keystone Health System Recovery Center Review

Crozer-Keystone Health System Recovery Center offers outpatient treatment for adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Located at Community Hospital in Chester, Pennsylvania, Crozer-Keystone provides comprehensive treatment facilitated by a highly qualified treatment team.

Treatment and Staff

Individuals seeking substance abuse treatment must first be evaluated by one of the counseling staff. Once assessed, eligible clients are assigned to either the traditional outpatient track or the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) according to their primary counselor’s recommendation.

IOP clients attend 10 hours per week of therapy including one hour of individual therapy and nine of group sessions. Groups use both DBT and CBT methods and are limited to eight men and women. Topics include addiction studies, family dynamics, psychodrama, relapse prevention, a co-occurring disorder group and introduction to 12-step programs.

Attendance at AA/NA and Alanon meetings is strongly recommended. Depending on the client, attendance slips may be required along with random urinalysis testing. While length of treatment is not set in stone, it is typically six weeks. Clients with co-occurring disorders see a psychiatrist for medication management.

Traditional outpatient clients meet twice per week for group therapy and once every other week for individual sessions. Topics are similar to those in IOP and, as with IOP, clients on medication are seen by a psychiatrist bi-weekly. Gender-specific groups are also provided.

Adolescents must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during the assessment. The adolescent IOP consists of two group sessions per week and one individual therapy session. Groups use DBT, CBT and EMDR and topics include peer pressure, addiction studies, family dynamics, relapse prevention and a goals group. In addition, family therapy occurs once per week with the client present.

As with the adults, adolescents with co-occurring disorders meet with a psychiatrist twice per month for medication management. Duration of treatment varies, but clients typically attend IOP for four to six weeks, then may step down to the less intensive adolescent outpatient program.

The treatment team at Crozer-Keystone consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, MFTs and CADCs.
