Crossroads Recovery Center Review

Since 1983, Gulf Coast Mental Health Center in Gulfport has provided a range of mental health services and substance abuse treatment programs to residents of southern Mississippi. Out of its Crossroads Recovery Center, Gulf Coast offers inpatient and an Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs that follow the 12 steps and use CBT. No detox or dual diagnosis services are provided.

Accommodations and Food

At Crossroads, a total of 20 beds are available for clients undergoing residential substance abuse treatment. Half are designated for female and the other half for male clients. Beds are grouped two to a room. Clients share rooms but have their own storage space. Three meals are provided a day and served cafeteria-style. Clients are permitted to also bring their own snacks as long as the snacks are not homemade.

Treatment and Staff

Inpatient treatment at Crossroads lasts 30 days. A typical day’s schedule has clients waking up at 6:45 am, then taking part in group sessions that start at 8:30 am and run every hour into the evening. On Mondays, there are no evening groups and clients are taken off-campus to attend AA/NA meetings. Tuesdays are designated for multi-family group sessions. Smoking is permitted only in designated areas on the grounds during treatment.

Outpatient treatment at Crossroads consists of individual and group therapy. The IOP runs three nights a weeks for 12 weeks, followed by nine months of continuing outpatient individual and group therapy.

Crossroads’ staff includes counselors, case managers and therapists. Clients meet with two different CDACs for the first 30 days, then are paired up with one therapist. There is also a peer support counselor available who is an alumnus of the program.

Extras

Inpatient clients may take part in meditation, as well as morning visits to a nearby gym. They may also be taken to the beach, the park or bowling or on other recreational outings.

After completion of inpatient treatment, clients move on to 48 weeks of continuing aftercare during which they take part in group once a week and usually also have individual therapy with their counselor, once a month.

For multiple DUI offenders, Crossroads provides a 20-hour, state- certified program that begins with an assessment and includes individual and group therapy. Prevention services are also provided to local schools and community groups.

In Summary

Crossroads Recovery Center has more than 30 years of experience in substance abuse treatment. The fact that they offer residential and outpatient services means there may be enough variety to fit the needs of different clients. While Gulf Coast doesn’t take private insurance, Medicaid is accepted. Treatment costs may be adjusted depending on where clients live, whether they have dependents and what their income is, but even at the top of the Gulf Coast sliding scale, the cost is at the lowest end of the spectrum.
