Crossroads Review
Founded in 1971, Crossroads provides offers outpatient substance abuse programs for adolescents and their families. Located in Mentor, Ohio, a leafy Cleveland suburb on the south shore of Lake Ontario, Crossroads also works with area schools to develop substance use prevention programs and deliver treatment in academic settings.
Treatment and Staff
Crossroads has both a standard outpatient track and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). After an assessment, clients are placed on either track. Standard outpatient clients meet for group therapy once or twice a week and have individual therapy as-needed. IOP clients meet for group therapy three times a week and have individual therapy once a week. The minimum length of IOP is seven weeks, and most clients step down to the standard outpatient track after completing their IOP treatment plan. The duration of the standard outpatient track is customized for each client.
Most clients at Crossroads have co-occurring disorders and receive extensive dual diagnosis support in treating their mental health diagnosis. The treatment team at Crossroads includes Master’s-level therapists such as LCSWs and LPCs, some with addiction counseling credentials including LADCs. Crossroads clients can receive medication from its psychiatrist and help coordinating care and accessing additional services through its case management staff.
Therapists at Crossroads have developed their own curriculum for treating adolescent substance abuse which uses the Matrix Model, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and The Cannabis Use Treatment Series curriculum. The treatment team also believes in the 12-step framework, and it requires IOP clients to attend two off-site AA/NA meetings each week.
Extras
Family participation is a cornerstone of treatment at Crossroads. It offers several family therapy groups each week for the all family members and an additional parents-only group. Families can also attend the client’s sessions if the treatment team thinks it would be beneficial.
A weekly continuing care group is available for aftercare, and Crossroads’s case managers help each client implement their aftercare plan, which often includes on-going mental health treatment at Crossroads. Transportation services are also available for clients who demonstrate need.
