Crest Counseling Services Review
Since 2011, Crest Counseling Services has been providing counseling and psychotherapy to teens and adults suffering from substance abuse and other mental and behavioral health disorders. With locations in Salida and Buena Vista, Colorado, all treatment is conducted on an outpatient basis and includes individual, group and family therapy for both court-ordered and self-admitted clients.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment begins with an in-person assessment with a counselor, during which the client’s substance abuse history is discussed and an appropriate level of care is determined. Those in need of detox or residential treatment are given outside referrals.
Clients generally begin with weekly individual therapy before transitioning into an appropriate group, which then meets an additional one to two times a week and consist of 10 to 15 clients. Coming from the belief that addiction is based on low self-esteem, treatment largely focuses on building self-worth while also using EMDR, relapse prevention strategies and psychotherapy techniques. Family therapy—both with and without the client present—is available but must be initially requested by the client. Similar meetings are encouraged with other important people in the client’s life, including significant others and AA/NA sponsors (although not a requirement of the program, clients are encouraged to attend local 12-step meetings).
Clients with a dual diagnosis receive additional individual therapy and attend Crest’s co-occurring disorders group.
Staff consists of LPCs, LCSWs and Licensed Addiction Counselors (LACs).
