Create, Inc. Review
Located in New York City, Create, Inc. was founded in 1973. This non-profit organization that provides a range of behavioral health treatment services to the Harlem community. Clients are surrounded by a plethora of culture and resources to aid them during their recovery. Create offers several substance abuse treatment options including an outpatient program and a residential program for adult men.
Accommodations and Food
The residential treatment program at Create is a 24-hour facility for males aged 18 and over. The accommodations are in a dormitory-like setting. There are two clients to a room with shared bathrooms on each floor. There are common living areas with TVs, phones and computers. The food is provided in a cafeteria-style setting with three meals served daily.
Treatment and Staff
The Create program offers a multi-faceted approach to treatment, integrating several different modalities to provide a well-rounded recovery base. Clients first go through a medical and psychological evaluation to determine their overall health and which forms of treatment will be most beneficial to their recovery. This information is used to form an individualized treatment plan that maps out the course of treatment during the program. Each client is then monitored via case management and the course of care is subject to change depending on the progress of the client.
The length of the program changes according to the needs and progress of each individual client. Plans typically consist of the following elements: individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy and relapse prevention. Peer support is encouraged through off-site 12-step meetings. The therapy implemented during treatment incorporates both CBT and DBT.
The staff at Create consists of Master’s-level CSWs, LPCs and CADCs.
Extras
Create also offers vocational counseling, independent living skills training, nutritional services and assistance with job searching and educational placement.
In addition to its outpatient and residential substance abuse treatment programs, Create also offers several other behavioral health services to its clients and community members. Other services include transitional living for homeless young adults, permanent housing and support services for those who have finished addiction treatment, job preparation and placement and emergency food distribution.
In Summary
The residential substance abuse treatment program at Create Inc is intended for male clients who need more intensive care and a multi-faceted treatment approach but not officially equipped to help those with co-occurring disorders. Still, through evidence-based therapies, the 12 steps and vocational training, clients leave the program will full independent living capabilities.
