Couples Counseling of Louisville (CCL) is an outpatient counseling facility that specializes in the care of couples and marital challenges. CCL is the shared practice of two experienced LMFTs, Sally Connolly and John Turner. While most clients come as couples, Connolly and Turner also treat individuals going through relationship issues such as divorce or infidelity as well as accompanying fear, depression and anxiety. Both therapists offer individualized therapy designed to meet the individual or couple’s unique needs.
Treatment and Staff
Couples typically participate in the first session together. This allows the clients the chance to get a feel for Connolly and Turner’s therapeutic style and gauge if it is a good fit. At the same time, the therapist can design a personalized treatment strategy based on a frank discussion of the couple’s challenges. Influenced by positive psychology models and the relationship research of Dr. John and Julie Gottman, Turner and Connelly offer a strengths-based philosophy for treatment that emphasizes the positive aspects of the relationship and provides practical solutions to problems. Strengthening verbal and nonverbal communication skills is an integral component to success of a healthy relationship. To yield the best results, clients are required to put effort outside of therapy. Couples are often assigned homework to be completed between sessions. While the length of treatment varies depending on the needs of the individual or couple, most clients attend once a week for between four and six months. For clients that have difficulty making it to the office for in-person therapy, Connolly and Turner also provide services over Skype, email or the phone.
John Turner and Sally Connolly each have over 35 years of experience. While they regularly treat clients with depression and anxiety, medication management is not offered.
A marriage questionnaire is available on the CCL website.
With over 75 years of combined experience, Connolly and Turner offer couples a unique alternative to common marriage counseling. They concentrate almost exclusively on the positives in the client’s relationship, rather than focusing on partner criticisms. For clients seeking experienced, dedicated therapists with a powerful and positive technique, Couples Counseling of Louisville is an excellent option.
