Countermeasures Inc. was founded in 1990 in Bloomington, Illinois. The organization has grown exponentially over the last couple of decades, and today operates two additional facilities in Peoria and Perkin. Countermeasures offers outpatient substance abuse treatment services to adult men and women in the central Illinois area.
Treatment and Staff
The intake process at Countermeasures begins with an in-person assessment with one of the organization’s counselors. During this assessment, the counselor determines the client’s needed level of care and potential treatment plan. Countermeasures accepts both court-ordered and voluntary clients and has a healthy mix of both at all times. If the client is in need of more intensive treatment, Countermeasures refers him or her to outside residential or detox programs.
The outpatient program’s length and intensity is based entirely on the counselor’s assessment of the client’s needs and progress in the program. The treatment consists of both group and individual therapy. Group meetings are offered five days a week and the amount of sessions varies based on the client’s particular treatment plan. The groups generally last between 90 and 120 minutes and usually have eight to 12 clients per group.
Countermeasures aims to not only work on the client’s thought patterns, but also to address the client’s emotional health and feelings. The counselors use a variety of treatment techniques in the groups including psychoeducation, CBT, relapse prevention and group sharing. Individual counseling is scheduled accordingly per client needs. Countermeasures is dual diagnosis equipped and readily treats clients who have co-occurring disorders. Also, clients are required to attend outside 12-step meetings while in the program.
The counselors at Countermeasures are a mixture of LSCWs and CADCs.
Extras
Although Countermeasures does not offer any formal aftercare program, clients are allowed to return for group and individual meetings at any time.
Countermeasures also offers an assortment of DUI services including evaluations, license reinstatement and DUI group meetings.
Countermeasures also offers family counseling both in the form of individual sessions with the family members as well as in group meetings with the client, their family members and a counselor.

Countermeasures is a solid, affordable outpatient treatment program for adult men and women in the central Illinois area. The flexible length of programming is an added, and often necessary, perk. The small group sizes allow clients to receive an adequate amount of individual attention while also giving them the opportunity to develop a close relationship with others who are new to sobriety and recovery. Additionally, the individual family counseling meetings allow an invaluable chance for family members to participate in the treatment and healing process themselves.
