Counseling West Review
Based in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, Counseling West is a behavioral health organization that’s been in operation for over 40 years. Treatment and Staff
Before they can begin a program, all clients must go through an initial intake and assessment process to help counselors determine their needs and design their care plans. Although on-site detox services are not available, referrals can be made whenever necessary.
Though each program is different, treatment features evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, DBT and EMDR. Additional holistic and alternative methods are also included, such as Somatic Experiencing, art therapy, mindfulness training and meditation. Counseling programs draw upon the teachings of “depth psychology,” namely the teachings of Freud and Jung which emphasized knowledge of the inner world. Dual diagnosis support is available including medication management. While 12-step participation is not always required, it may be encouraged in some cases.
The staff at Counseling West consists of LMFTs, CADCs, LCSWs, LPCs, psychologists, case managers and additional Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
Treatment plans are also available for marital issues, life transitions and relationship skills. Language-specific support is also available for Armenian, Farsi, German, Serbian, French, Tagalog and Spanish. The organization also offers MFTi internships for those studying to become social workers and LMFTs. Finally, those who complete a primary care plan can work with staff to develop stepped down aftercare plans as necessary.
