Counseling Services of Eastern District New York (CSEDNY) offers outpatient treatment services in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island. The agency was originally established over 30 years ago to provide substance abuse treatment as an alternative to incarceration but over the years has opened its doors to self-referred clients as well. Services include intensive and non-intensive substance abuse treatment programs along with separate programs for those struggling with dual diagnosis issues.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at CSEDNY begins with an assessment to determine an appropriate level of care. Clients then work with a counselor to establish an individualized treatment plan. Those in need of co-occurring disorders support have access to on-site medication management services.
CSEDNY operates programs in four different facilities that welcome self-referred and court-ordered clients seeking chemical dependency and mental health support. The standard option available at the Brooklyn ComALERT, Queens, and Long Island branches consists of non-intensive group therapy sessions held for an hour at a time. Groups are scheduled five to six days out of the week and are held every hour beginning at 10 am and running until 7 pm.
The Queens facility also offers two dual-diagnosis tracks, one for young adults between the ages of 17 and 24 and the other for adults over the age of 25. The young adult program is held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for an hour at a time while adults attend Monday through Thursday for an hour at a time. Lastly, the second Bronx office is the only CSEDNY facility that runs an Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for adults. There are two IOP tracks; one for those dealing primarily with addiction and the other for clients with co-occurring disorders. The addiction group meets Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and the dual diagnosis groups are scheduled on the same days from 10 am to 1 pm. All groups incorporate evidence-based treatment and psycho-educational. Aside from group therapy, clients are scheduled for individual therapy sessions as needed as well. Staff members at the facility include psychiatrists and CASACs trained in CBT and DBT.
Extras
The Queens and Brooklyn facilities also offer aftercare groups focused on relapse prevention. Groups are held once or twice a week for an hour at a time. Clients can also schedule an individual session on a weekly basis if needed.
