sioux falls south dakotaCounseling Resources of Sioux Falls Review

A Sioux Falls, South Dakota institution since 1992, Counseling Resources of Sioux Falls offers substance abuse treatment on an outpatient basis with dual diagnosis support. CRSF is accredited by the Department of Social Services Community Behavioral Health Division as a recognized provider of court-approved substance abuse care, though it also provides a stand-alone 12-hour DUI public safety program.

Treatment and Staff

CRSF offers two distinct programs of substance abuse care, namely an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a standard outpatient program. IOP consists of nine hours of group therapy and individual therapy sessions a week for eight weeks, whereas standard outpatient consists of the same treatment for six hours a week, lasting six weeks. Because CRSF is a relatively small operation, they have four primary staff members for these sessions, all of whom are LADCs. Individual therapy is scheduled as-needed basis, though clients can usually schedule at least one session each week. Group sessions are kept small, with no more than 10 clients at a time. CRSF generally follows a CBT treatment model, with an emphasis on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). While the facility does not hold 12-step meetings on-site or work the steps with clients, staff still encourages participants to seek out local meetings. Information about AA/NA is provided as well.

The facility’s staff director has dual substance abuse and mental health credentials and leads group and individual sessions that address co-occurring disorders, however there is no on-staff psychiatrist or medical doctor therefore medication management is not provided. There are also no detox services offered, though referrals can be provided whenever necessary.

Because CRSF believes in treating clients as individuals, it is possible to extend one’s program longer than the eight or six week term of their IOP and standard outpatient programs.

Extras

CRSF’s family program usually incorporates the family unit into individual sessions towards the ends of each participant’s tenure. Aftercare is also available, and consists of stepped down programs after clients complete their initial program. Typically, the final phase of treatment means attending special relapse prevention groups which meet on Wednesday from 12 to 2 pm and 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

As mentioned, CRSF has served as one of the first chemical dependency programs in Sioux Falls to offer the South Dakota Public Safety DUI program. The class is typically completed on four week nights from 5 to 8 pm over a two week period, or on two Saturday sessions from 8 to 2:30 pm. The program consists of reading, writing and discussion sessions, and is offered at the facility once every six weeks.

In Summary

Though relatively small, Counseling Resources of Sioux Falls provides solid outpatient recovery programs with dual diagnosis support. All programs are tailored in length and intensity according to each client’s needs, allowing them to step down between programs as-ready. While the facility may lack certain features of a larger or more intensive program, Counseling Resources of Sioux Falls still provides all the necessities for a life of sobriety.
